They may care. But do they do anything about it? The only thing I know of is candlelight ceremonies for the dead.

We have also been desensitized to crime in the inner city. It is something that we expect to hear about on a daily basis. Not so much about the burbs.

Its more what they can do, which is very little. Violence against people who take a stand is very common, so people are scared to do anything. Inner city crime could certainly be reduced if the funds were available to do so. Gangs and violence has been neutralized in some areas in the past, then funding gets cut and man power pulled, only for the gangs and violence to take over again.

Agreed we have been desensitized. Just had this discussion with a co-worker about what our country is desensitized to. It came up in a discussion about Ray Lewis. He's involved in the murder of two people, and people forget all about it. Not only do they forget, they are currently acting like he is an amazing human being and a role model. Then you have Mike Vick. He kills some dogs and people still act like he is the devil. Strange world we live in.

Todd I agree with the bold, my point is we(most not all) do not want to do anything about it, and we don't. Until it hits close to home.

We don't want to or can't? We are powerless for the most part but imo, that doesn't mean we don't care.

The elected officials in these areas are not doing anything and they can do something. There is also some responsibility on the residents but as pointed out, they are powerless to do anything about the gangs.

I find it ironic how great the left thinks obama is. Then we look at his own city and it is a mess. He didn't do a thing to help them but he is going to save us. (Sarcasm)

Incorrect. I never called you a racist. People making assumptions is why nothing ever gets done.

I pointed out that you were using pieces of statistics to prove your point.

We can't do anything? Powerless? Hmmm...when there is an issue we care about, ie gun control, suddenly we have a voice. When its something we don't truly care about because it doesn't affect us, then that voice is gone?

That's kind off my point, why does anyone think our elected officials can get anything done.

We have to demand the change and I do not see that happening.

When we talk about the problems and solutions, then we are attacked as racist.

I can't put a single person in jail in Detroit, Chicago or New Orleans.

We are talking about it right now in this gun debate. Yet still, the elected officials know it's easier to attack law abiding citizens and do nothing but blame the gun.

Take back the streets. Tough decision but it might take martial law to achiece this. (No official is willing to make that call) make laws that punish criminals and not law abiding citizens. Gun crime= 10 years mandatory. Murder=life or execution. Police in the schools or national guard if martial law is intituted.

It will take some hard, tough decisions. No one willing to do it yet. Still easier to blame the weapon than fix the problem.

You are welcome to make all the assumptions you want. Just don't put words in my mouth.

Look at what happened to Bill Cosby when he got onto the black community. He was attacked by the left, ACLU and blacks in general for speaking the truth. A white politician does that and he is through politically. If they actually start to do something, the back lash from the media and the ACLU would ruin them for life.

You know you called my post about black unemployment racist. You can talk in circles all you want but we both know what you were saying.

"A white dude from Kentucky posts graphs singling out a race for negative reasons, but he's not prejudice.Suuuuurrrrre, thats believable. You should try politics."

This was your exact quote. Sorry I'm just prejudice, not a racist. Like I said. Talk in circles all you want.

    Then there was this.

"Trust me man, I'm not he only one "pinning" stuff as racist. I get PMs all the time about it on this board. I'm just one of the few that will actually say something"

Doesn't look I put any words in your mouth:rolleyes:

I live downtown Birmingham. The gas stations across the street have bullet proof glass. My friend was late meeting up for the UK Alabama game last night because his pharmacy was held at gunpoint.

I see the inner city and peoples actions daily. And the bulk of people dont care, if you get carjacked or robbed it is almost expected at this point. I thought living in Kentucky I had experienced racism when I'd here some dumb redneck crack a joke or something.....I literally do not feel safe in half of my city because of the color of my skin. It's a two way street, and the hate I've seen come from minorities far outweighs the hate I've seen from any white person, including all the dumb rednecks I know in both Alabama and Kentucky.

I'm sure that makes me a bad person, and it's justified in some way...but its real none the less.
