When I showed up at our range here yesterday I was suprised to see that I was the only one there. Usually it is pretty crowded, especially this time of year. It was fun shooting on my own for a while, then a couple more guys showed up. I didnt know them...we started shooting together though. Somehow we kept getting further and further away from the target, until eventually we looked up and we were 100 yards away. We shot 6 arrows apiece....and no one hit the target. It was fun though, and one of the guys had a good response when his friend asked why we were even trying this. None of us would ever try to shoot a deer this far? He said (Ill try to quote him closely) "Sometimes we just take this to seriously and forget its only for fun. Weve practiced out asses off and we know we can shoot well. Why not have fun with it? I mean, were not even hitting the target, even though we were laughing the whole time." Anyways, the reason for this whole shpeil is.....dont forget its all for fun. Even though I love taking this sport seriously, it means nothing if you dont enjoy it. Sorry for the long, cheesy thread. Trig was killin me though, so i had to get on the Q and write something. :d
Couldn't agree with you more. First time I ever went shooting with Raceway and Mechdoc we all had the most fun taking 60-70 yard shots on a course though the trees! Probably one of the most fun shoots I have had!
Why were you shooting at 100 yards anyways. Don't you know you'll never shoot a deer at that yardage. Good post OK. It doesn't matter, as long as you were having fun and enjoying the sport, have at it. Even tuning can suck the joy out of archery at times, might as well enjoy shooting the bow if it shoots well.
It's just another angle at archery. That's something I'd like to try. I love shooting at 50 yds & being consistent w/arrow placement is what I strive for @ that distance. I think it's the challenge at shooting that distance lend to the fun. We are competitive by nature anyway.
Fun is what is all about buddy and I had a blast yesterday for my first hunt of the new season. Damn acorn would fall and get my blood pumping. T
NOt only is it fun to shoot long distances (although I have never tried that far) but it does help hone your skills too. I shoot every day (this time of year) out to 60 yards but I have an extra pin so maybe I will have to step back a little more:d
Shooting (long, close, through trees, over the hill) is always fun, I love to hunt but I love to shoot in the off season too, whether it be 3-D's or a bunch of guys at the house playing follow the leader. I just enjoy shooting and pushing myself in my abilities too (just for fun)....
