I've posted a pic of this guy on another thread. I'm pretty sure he bit the dust. Idk if genetics or injury was to blame but we have a few other smaller bucks in area with same funky side. Also alot of tall narrow racks. If I saw this deer or deer in your pic I would shoot so fast your head would spin. Then I would put it on my wall. I like freaky things

I'm in a similar boat with the luxury of letting bucks get to a certain age before harvesting them. There are some I just won't shoot because I'd rather give them a chance they won't run into another hunter during the season and live another year. Some I look at and think well he's a decent buck, but I doubt anyone else would pass him up. This may turn him into a shooter for me. But above and beyond all, I look at a buck and if he's impressive to me, I know within about 5 seconds if he's a shooter. If the instinct is to draw back, then I do. I'm a fairly young archery hunter and have only harvested 2 bucks with my bow. My standards are different than others based on my happiness with a buck. And frankly out here, a 120 - 130 inch buck is a pretty darn good buck.

I personally think a shooter buck is what the hunter sees through his eyes. If I see a buck, get excited, can smile when I see him down and have the personal satisfaction of a job well done; I'm happy no matter what anyone else sees or thinks.

Shoot or pass is a personal decision. NO ONE ELSE'S opinion should ever factor in, unless hunting someone else's land that has restrictions. OTHERWISE NOT A SOUL deserves an opinion on what YOU decide to do. Hunting is a personal thing, way too much thought and input is affecting how people hunt these days.

I wish that response could be a sticky and then anytime someone creates a post asking if they shoot or not that it links directly to that quote.

I agree with that it is just interesting to see what people will shoot and what some people won't. I'm way more of an experience kind of guy. I don't make money on shooting 6 or 7 year old deer so I will shoot more often than the extreme QDMA guys.

A "regular old typical buck"? Are you serious? That buck had/has 6 points on the left side. If both sides matched he'd be an awesome 12 point! How many regular old 12 points have you encountered in your time? I haven't seen one in 30+ years.

This is always a very touchy subject. To shoot or not to shoot. Personally, I would shoot him and be very happy using my one buck tag on him.

With that broken leg buck, I think I'd shoot him. He might survive, but I don't know, I don't think he'll have a chance to breed much anymore if there's much competition around.

He managed just fine, he broke it in 2014 and I let him go....he seemed no worse for wear this past season, just a crooked leg....but he made the list regardless... And I killed him. [IMG][IMG]

Thanks. It isn't close to a lot of the studs found on this page but not a bad for a Nc buck
