I'm hunting 6ish acres in a "neighborhood" that backs up to a wildlife area. There is one doe that lives on the property and 6+ bucks that pass through occasionally. There is a nice bedding thicket, acorns galore in the fall, but nothing really holding deer on the 6 acre lot. So my question is...if I shoot the doe, will the bucks keep coming in? Will another doe fill the void?
The only time I've seen a buck during the day, in person or on cam, was when they were chasing this particular doe. I didn't want to ruin that if it's the only thing drawing bucks in. Thanks for the input guys!
You could let her have a couple fawns then they have a couple of fawns and soon you have something to hunt.
sounds like slim picking if you think there is only one doe using the property....maybe a conservative approach is in order. Leave her alone.
I believe I'd leave her be and take out a buck. Even if it isn't huge if meat is what you are after. If not, I'd still leave her be and wait till next year and take out a buck. Only problem I see is her continuing to produce bucks and breaking with her offspring. Not sure if that causes birth defects like in humans and other mammals but, it's a fear I'd have. How big/old are the bucks?
I'm 99.9% sure I won't take her any time soon. I already got a buck this year, so there is no rush to fill the freezer. Here are some of the bucks on the property... And the doe in question...
you are gonna be ok. if you have the set up you say they have more than one reason to be there, shooting their booty call shouldnt hurt you lol.
