No silly, that's why they invented the beer holding helmets, both hands free for rifle and spot light!

i don't think it's written in the illinois hunt trap digest so you wouldn't know. but i'm sure if caught you would be fined and prosecuted and everything they can get you for. they like to do that a lot. best just not to do it anyway

Stick around, plenty more where that came from.

"Encourages" was the wrong word but if you have a poacher's mentality then shinning sure would be a help for scouting.

The only place I shine is on land that I can hunt.

If you have a murders mentality then owning a gun sure would help commiting a murder...

Flash lights don't poach deer, people poach deer.

    The end of thread.
    Keep spinning.

I guess no more using a flashlight to walk outa the woods a deer might run in front of me on the field edge and I'm Guna piss someone off. Guys there is nothing wrong with scouting for deer at night. And I'm sorry to say this but if your going to go door to door asking for permission to shine a field u mise we'll ask to hunt it to. That is just silly. When we shine we will drive around for 2 or 3 hours covering half the damn county sure in the heck not going to ask ever land owner to shine his field.

I personally have no problem with it! I did iit year round back in Mississippi granted it is not legal to spotlight deer at night but as long as you don't have a weapon in the truck no one really cares! We were always respectful about it an only shined fields with no houses or buildings around it. If you get the wrong cop or game warden they'll write the ticket for spotlighting and harassing the wildlife. As I found in neighboring states where it is legal the game wardens will still write you a ticket for harassing the wildlife.

I shine on a regular basis and it's a great scouting tool, according to some this makes me a poacher.

I keep posting not sure why. Dumbest thread I have ever seen. I have need heard of shining before and looked it up. And to me the conclusions of someone with a flashlight is a poacher. I can see how buddy is pissed when people shine in his window. Fine those are morons. But after reading this I will for sure shine properties around me, being respectful and do t where there is no house so I don't give anyone a heart attack. But I assure you my spotlight does not shoot .22LR so there is nothing wrong with it. And if your really scared people may see your deer and you need a corn wall all the power to you. But saying a shiner is a poacher is saying a gun owner is a serial killer. Dumbest ideology I've ever heard and I seriously can't believe we needed 4 pages on this thread. Wow hunting season really needs to open.

Shining without a weapon in the vehicle is legal here. It should not be because: The number one method for poaching huge bucks in our area is low-lifes driving around at night with spotlights and a rifle. The problem is, law enforcement has no idea who has a gun in the truck and who does not. Neither do the landowners. So, the landowners call in all the spotlighters and the law enforcement is spread too thin chasing down "legitimate" spotlighters while others are poaching away. If spotlights were made illegal, it would simplify enforcement and the poachers would get nabbed far more easily. So, I guess you could easily reach the conclusion that allowing spotlighting does in fact make the act of poaching easier to get away with. Which means, it does in fact encourage some to take the chance because the risk of getting caught is slim.

I now understand why 7th grade teachers need therapy after reading comp class. Nobody on this thread ever stated EVERY shiner was a poacher only that shining is a tool that can lead to poaching, trespassing.
