Yes. Proper fit shoes cause more injuries. Want proof? Here are just a small samples are articles proving this: LINK LINK LINK To sum up all the articles (and there are many more that back my statement), is that proper fit shoes allow for people to get away with bad running form. They cause people to be heavier on your feet and to strike heal first, which is all bad form. Bad form equates to injuries.
Hi Hooker, I hadn't posed my question directly to you previously. Is ther emuch of an acclimation period getting used to these? I was curious if you went right to runnign in them or had you walked in them for a while to get your feet used to them?
Well I probably should have took some time to become acclimated with them, but alas, I lack the patience for that and took them for a 3 mile trail run the day they came in. My feet and calves were quite sore the next day. And I would advise anyone who is thinking about trying barefoot running to first start running in racing flats first, to become somewhat acclimated. If you just go from cushioned shoes to all of a sudden barefoot, your feet are going to kill you. It took me about a week to get used to my toes being separated. Now I can't even tell though.
Matt I gotta ask :D are you training for football at the next GTG?? :D Sorry couldntresist :D Hey good luck bud, you will find a way!
Thanks for the info guys. My shins are really starting to feel much better. I hiked quite a bit this last weekend to scout some new property, and they didn't bother me at all. I think I'm going to get my cardio workouts on an elliptical instead, much lower impact and I really just don't have the knees at this point for it anyhow. I've still been weight training and eating clean for the past 2 weeks, but plan to give it another week or so before getting back into the cardio.
An awful lot of maybes and assumptions in those articles...none with proof. A lot of "could cause" in the articles. I'm not necessarily saying they wrong, but I think from what I read in those articles, they are making assumptions. And you can find a doctor that suggests anything is better than another. I am involved in the diet and exercise industry so I hear plenty of "well I read this article where a doctor said (insert whatever makes you happy)"
