What do you all use? I have mole skin on mine now but It's too thin for my liking. Once In a while I'll get some arrow bounce with these long heavy arrows I'm shooting and It gets a tad to noisy. I did have a bunch of mole skin that was much thicker then what I have now but I can't seem to find It anywhere In stores. It was tree bark camo. I hear lots of great stuff about seal skin and also about beaver skin. Anyone know where to find this stuff?? I've been looking allot on Trad Gang but no one seems to have them. I might of missed a few though, wouldn't be the 1st time.:bash:

Self- adhesive backed velcro works pretty good.. I'll have to check but I may have some of the tree bark camo mole-skin... if you want it you can have it..

Like Chris said velcro works well but I still like Bear Hair.

I've tried it all. I don't like the velcro anymore because as much as I shoot it wears out too quickly. Calf hair, nope, not any more. I use leather for the rest and strike plate, I attach it with double sided carpet tape, holds up in the worst weather and lasts for a very long time. Steve, go to Tandy Leather Co and they sell scrap leather for $5.00 a piece, it comes in all weights.

Seal hair is hard to come by now a days and getting even harder. You can find beavertail at Moscow Hide and Fur..... http://www.hideandfur.com/inventory/0305.html

For the recurves, I prefer a "cushy" type material for the rest, my favorite comes from Great Plains. For the sideplate, I like leather.

I like the seal skin I have on my recurve, its fairly thick compared to moleskin and its real forgiving.

I had velcro at first. It wore out fast. Then I had a fluffy moleskin. Liked it, but it too wore quickly. At the moment I have calf hair. We'll see how it does.

The problem is that only Native Americans are allowed to harvest them.

I think the stuff is very good when it is new, but it seems to wear quickly (hair falls out and you're left with leather anyway). I no longer am interested in that stuff.

I believe it has to do with the initial release of the arrow and contact the end of the arrow makes with the rest upon. A "cushy" rest will absorp some of the impact where a hard surface will tend to bounce it.

Thanks for the link Joe via PM!! I talked with the owner and ordered up 2 seal skin patches. I've never used It before so I guess If I don't like It, It won't be hard to sell It either I'm sure to someone else.

That's exactly why I want something a little thicker then the mole skin I have on now. My arrows tend to bounce a slight bit at times when I start to draw back.

Steve an easy way to apply it on your shelf is with double sided carpet tape, its all I use now a days. I was hunting in somew foul weather last season and just happen to look at me shelf and the rest was barely hanging on from the barge cement. All I had was the tape and the rest has been on their ever since, thousands and thousands of arrows and all kinds of nasty weather! If you need some let me know, I'll send you a strip of it!
