Depends on where I am, but if it's a place I deer hunt, I'm actually half coyote hunting/half shed hunting. I'm stopping to do 20 minute calling sets and then walking and looking for sheds to the next set. Once the snow melts I'll do a few passes though where I'm strictly shed hunting and looking much harder, but I'll still carry the rifle if I'm in spot where it's OK.
Pistol only for me. I've walked up on a pissed off boar hog before. You won't make that mistake again being without one.
Family owns about 210 acres in northern Wisconsin that connects with lots and lots (technical term) of public land. Love the ability to walk all day without seeing a hunter or a road. I don't get up there as much anymore though. Closer to home, just walk a bunch of smaller 80-200 acre public sections all around southern Minnesota. Main problem around here is the bluffs. Walking the flat land up north is easy
My dad and I have about 600 acres that’s what I hunt on. But for shed hunting I walk ours and a lot of the neighbors. Tough shed hunting as their main bedding is in coulees draws that go out to the fields and they can use any of them anytime depending on weather. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Walked a while today and came up empty. Cameras are showing some are stating to shed. Will try again next weekend.
Yup there Is not much to do to beat that. I for the most part just do these contests for fun and to share with others. There are always a couple guys that put up crazy numbers. It would be fun to find that many sheds my self, but just not realistic for my area and time I have.
We are in the process of getting more snow, on the plus side most bucks are still holding so they wont get buried. Really getting the itch to get out and do some walking
Annoying, I don't appear to be getting updates when you all post on here. Nice work. Matt Compound bow Carbon arrows Fixed broadheads
well if you only counted the sheds a person actually found, that number would be way less...just saying
Guys that put in the time usually reap the rewards. He put the time in to train his dog. Kudos to him. I'll be happy to find a few sheds
I've got a young lab I've been working with but I've been so busy with work here lately and other stuff going on that I just haven't had chance to be in the woods on the weekends. Hope to be there in a couple weekends, just hope it's not to late by then.
We just keep getting more snow here. 4 last night, supposed to get 7 more tomorrow. Hopefully I can find them before the squirrels do.
Snow is pretty limited here now. Mostly rain and ice the last few days. All the south facing bluffs seem to be pretty clear. Problem is there is still enough ice where I go that its a pain to walk them. Also, the main little spot I hunt faces north, so plenty of snow left.
