I have heard quite a bit about shed traps and even more about the results that they are suppose to bring. Can anyone give any insight to how effective these traps are?

I have seen a wide variety of designs and models and they appear to be foolproof to set up and at least guaranteed get an antler or two but I have never had any firsthand experience. I would like to make one to see if it provides more, or just as many as I can find hunting for them myself but id rather not waste the time if they are a flop.

Below are some of the designs I was considering...

I would hate to see a buck get tangled up in one of those things before he is ready to shed. Personally I wouldn't use either.

A very good point to say the least. I wouldn't even consider putting one up until mid March... Even still there is always that chance though..

I've seen people use a piece of angle iron with corn piled in it.

This is a simple shed trap I made a few years ago. I used rubber bungee cords hooked on small headed screws that if pulled on hard enough, would pop off. But I think it loosened his antler up just enough to fall off somewhere where I couldnt find it! I think it'd work if it was loose enough though.

Are those mineral bricks on the ground around the traps? But I think I'm going to give that design a try only maybe with a deeper box. I like how the design keeps them from getting stuck if they get caught up. Worst case scenario you lose a few bungee cords. Very cool.

No sir, those are sugar beets. Deers FAVORITE food! If you can ever find these to feed them in the winter... definately use them! They last a long time due to them freezing and the deer has to work at them a long time to eat one. Kind of hard to come by some years though... Unless you go to Michigan. They sell them at the gas stations there!

I have never heard of that before. Ill be sure to keep an eye out for them. I'm sure it will make late bow season a lot more enjoyable! If you find anywhere online to buy them be sure to let me know!

To my knowledge it is legal in Indiana... Has anyone found any sheds in Northern Indiana this year? I went out today and didn't find a thing..
