For most of you that do shed hunts....... where are you searching? I have gone to two places that I hunted last year and the deer tracks are still heavy and run into a new rub here and there. Is this where the sheds take place or can they be anywhere? Never found any before and would like to find something on my next search. I have heard that some are being found now but some still haven't shed.... I'm in NC and have read where mid March is about the best time to search.

    Thanks

First get ready to put a lot of time in the woods. I find a good chunk of my sheds in bedding areas. I then search fence, creek, river, or any other crossings. Staging areas and feeding areas are also some good spots. I would stick to bedding areas. I would grid search too because all the big bucks do not stay on trails. I found a matching 9 point set this year that was around 20 yards off trail. I grid search a lot. I hope that helps! Good luck and can not wait to see your first shed! Here is my first ever shed.

I went yesterday and this morning both. I don't even hunt this area, nor have I ever set foot in these woods. This was my first time "really" shed hunting. I did find a left side on a small 12, possibly a 110ish, nothing to brag about.

I stuck with bottoms, found heavily used trails, water sources and possible food sources. So, about an hour into it I found it in the bottoms next to a small pond.
I searched for the other side and nothing.

I went again this morning and found thousands of rubs, some a week old, but nothing. My guess, a lot of the bucks around here probably still have their gear on. I think the end of this week and all of next week is going to promising.

Getting stumped is part of the game! I have been out like 10 times straight being stumped! Seeing them still packing is not a bad thing though. I will never give up! I have 4 and then hit the dry spell so I hope that it changes fast along wtih your season too.
