The other day a buddy of mine found this antler while pulling down a tree. Its got a 11 points on the one side and has alot of character and a great deer for the area. BUT the base of it is really jagged and has hair on it. Is that normal or what is the deal with it. From my understanding shed antlers are smooth on the bottom and don't have hair on them. My question is does this look like a shed to you guys of did he some how break it off? We are really curios because we hope he is still alive. Here are the pictures of it. Here is the shed. Thanks guys!
I just read a book on shed hunting and it stated that if it had any hair on it that it was a recently shed antler.
