I need some help learning to sharpen broad heads. I have struggled trying to get a good edge on a knife let alone a broadhead so i am hoping you guys can help me. What is the correct method to sharpen the Montec CS's and what products should i use to sharpen them?

using a stone takes a lot of practice to get it right. i use a sharpener similar to the G5 sharpener though i did not pay a bunch for it. works great and fits in my bow kit. it is a klawhorn redi edge dog tag. they make one for broadheads, both mechanical and fixed as well.

I bought one of these, it's the regular montec sharpener from G5, for my son-in-law who shoots the Montecs. Seems like its expensive at about $24 but when you consider that you won't be replacing heads all the time, it pays for itself pretty quick.

    Blessings.......Pastorjim

If you want to do it on the cheap, use an old slate or ceramic turkey call (one that you'll NEVER use again), and squirt a little bit of gun oil on the face, then lay the Montec flat on the slate and just grind it around in circles. Do this for all 3 sides.

Done in 10 minutes and costs $0.

Any flat stone will work. A chunk of old chalkboard or flat piece of ceramic material would work just fine, too.

i'll give it a go quick. If all else fails the sharpener above will be my next choice. thanks for the info guys. i have really worn mine down shooting at targets so much. i originally set 3 for target and 3 for hunting but got tired of walking 30 yards every 3 shots.

I took one look at G5's expensive stone and it took me about 10 seconds to realize that there was a much, much more economical way to skin the cat.

I told a guy to do the slate call trick once, and he looked at me like I was speaking Spanish. He texted me 2 days later and told me that he appreciated the help, but decided to buy the $30 Montec sharpener. LOL

No BS, MHS - it works. Trust us.

Hey Quik, will this work on any broadhead of that design such as a magnus snuffer SS's? I'm assuming so

Do just like Fran said....I don't use slat but it will work just fine. I just use a cheep ($4) med. diamond stone (same one I sharpen all my knives with)....youll have it razer sharp in a matter of min's.

Fats - I'd presume so. I've only ever sharpened my Montecs like that, but I wouldn't be afraid to try it on any similar heads (like the Snuffers or Hellrazors).

Any good flat stone will work, i.e. a whetstone, diamond stone, or even a flat sharpening stone from a Lansky kit. If you don't have one of those, a ceramic or slate turkey call will do ya like a dinner. You definitely don't need to go out and buy anything special. That's one of the great built-in advantages of that particular broadhead design.

Grizz, Hoosier - thanks for chiming in there. I was afraid everyone would think I'd lost my mind. Not everyday does a guy tell you to sharpen your broadheads with a turkey call. LOL!

Shoot the Montecs and use a flat diamond stone. These stones work great on any 3 blade head.
