Ol Peak has had something yesterday that just really hit home hard. My wife does this coupon savings thingy and it works a lot of times where she gets food free. Well yesterday we decided to donate a whole bunch of food to our local pantry here in Kenosha County, Wi. Well while she is talking to this lady a guy walks in and looked to be kind of rough shape. After about a few minutes he turns and looks at me and says you look familiar and then it hit me. His St. Louis Cardinals hat is missing and I say didn't you coach my son for T-ball? He responds yes and that his son still plays. Well anyways after a short chat then we leave and get in the car and my wife says I think he has fallin on tough times. As we are leaving I see him walk back outside with some of the stuff we had just brought in. I don't see a car anywhere and just see him walk away to wherever he came from. This has hit us pretty damn hard and have made a promise from this point on to continue to help that place out. When we first arrived I noticed most of the shelves in the place were empty of food. We are going to have a couple food drives and with the way this couponing is working out great I dont see a reason we cant keep giving on a weekly basis. If I ever see that guy again I am going to do my best to help him out for sure. My whole point of this little story is please be thankful as it all can be taken away in a heart beat. God bless, T
Amen! We try helping in small ways and especially to get our young kids involved so they understand how good we have it. We have an annual Halloween Party for all friends and family. My wife does games and crafts for the kids, mini hay-rack ride, bon-fire...but bottome line is that we provide the food/party and ask everyone when we invite to start collecting food items to donate - plus we have a cash donation can. It was a hit, and got everyone else in the mood to help on their own some afterwards. Best part was having the kids help take the donated items and cash to the local shelter for abused women and children...opens your eyes in a hurry - and they are so appreciative it makes you want to do more. and might not seem like much, but my hunting group donates many deer each season to the IL sportsmen against hunger...stocks the food pantries locally and allows all of us to shoot more does than we typically would. GREAT POST!
well said Peak, no mistake about it, from the first time i met you at Fergs deal you were a GREAT dude. oh and might i say raising a few pretty good lil' dudes too!
Isaiah cole likes you a lot bro that is for sure. As for the bag game well he wants revenge, lol Thanks for the kind words and back at ya. Their is one little exception though and it has to do with a shot I had at fergs party LOL. Its all good someone finally got me. T
Nice job there Peak, you're doing a good deed. My time for donating is fast approaching too. I am blessed to hunt in a doe rich environment. I have donated at least 2 whole deer to the Hunters Feeding the Hungry program here in MO the last few years. With the way things are this year I may donate a couple more to the cause.
The cool part of this Tony, is that as much satisfaction that you feel from helping... those people feel 10x that from the stuff you do for them. Good job!
