Hey all. I know a bunch of you have kids who shoot, as do my sons, but the problem today is MUCH larger than anything ever attempted in my home........My daughter wants, no NEEDS a bow. SHe's 6 and is coming out of her skin watching us get ready. She helps hang stands, helps plant the food plots, helps fletch arrows and clean deer. We have an old PSE JR that was my odest sons first, but she wants something else, cuz shes the girl and .................well there ya go. Any suggestions?? My thinking is to wait another year or so, but the boys want to get her one so she can be part of the group. Don't want something disposable, but something she can grow into over the next couple of years. Diamond, PSE and Bear make some with a splash of pink on them (Yep, PINK!) and she zeroed in on those right away. Does anyone have any experience with these?? Or anything else that may work?? Thanks in advance for the help.
PSE mini burner. I held one the other night and they are amazing for young shooters. You can adjust them so many ways, one being just by flipping part of the string over the cams by hand no tools needed, you can double the poundage on the bow. Awesome little bow. I just told my buddy about it so he can get his 6 year old boy one. I was really impressed with it.
My neighbor who is 10 has the Bear apprentice, one of the 2 offered in pink, and its a nice little bow. It accepts just about any accessory my strike can take. It also looks almost exactly like the strike minus the 2 arched string dampeners. its adjustable from 15-27" draw length and 20-50# draw weight, only negative to this is there is a chart that matches DL to DW. for example 20" is a max of 40#. The nice thing about it is you don't need a bow press to adjust draw length and the limbs just screw tighter to the bow to increase draw weight. Not sure what you are looking for but i have had no problems with my Bear.
Depending on how big your daughter is I would have her look at the Diamond Razor Edge. It might be a tad big by my 7 year old daughter just started shooting one and it is awesome. I purchased one for my older daughter when she turned 8 and have been extremely happy with it. At $329 fully set up it is a great bow!
Bear Apprentice 2 Here's a second vote for this bow. Wide range of adjustments, but still a high quality product. Would work for your daughter for many years IMHO. I bought it for myself for the adjustability, due to my arthritis. I'm 63 years old, and it works for me. I know of no other bow with which you can change both draw length and draw weight in 5 minutes without a bow press. Under $300 at Cabela's including rest, sight and quiver. Good luck.
Not sure how big she is but if she can pull 15lb a pink Mission Craze would be right up your alley. Adjustable from 15-70lbs and 17-30" in DL. I tell people that the next bow she needs she can buy herself becasue she will never outgrow that one while under your roof. You can get them RTH for $399. And that comes with some darn good accessories and the great lifetime Mathews warranty.
I taught both my kids with a recurve first. Yes I have a daughter and she started at 2 with a nerf recurve I modified to shoot real arrows. I always recommend recurves starting out because they teach better fundamentals. However the most important thing is getting them involved with something that fits them. Ive never had any problems with any of my Bear products. I dont think you'd be going wrong with any Bear products. btw just thought it was cool this thread was started on the day I graduated basic training!
