Can someone here go thru the steps you use from start to finish on setting up a new bow? I am just curious on this as to what, if anything I may be missing.

    Thanks

I am starting to look for locals who are familiar with trad shooting. Trouble is, my nearest "pro shop" is 1hr away. No one there shoots trad and act like they don't want to discuss it much. (They carry very little trad accessories even)

I am getting great advice and info here and other forums, but there is no substitute for hands-on, and an experienced shooter helping get you set up and on the right track.

Here's just a few basic things that can be easily done LT. Get this stuff done right away so you can go from there-

    1. Set the manufactured brace height on your bow. Here's how you check It- http://info.htcomp.net/bhn/Columnists.nsf/d731dec9a617821886256590000646df/6d6e03a01d94a96b86256e8d005e6066?OpenDocument

    2. Set the nocking point on your string. If you arrows (fletching) are kicking upward when you shoot, lower your nock. If your arrow (fletching) Is kicking downward, raise your nock.

Thanks Steve. Good info. Appreciate it. One question though. How do you adjust Brace Height? Twist or untwist string, or different length string altogether?

    Twist & untwist the string.

Also as you progress, once a week check you BH to see if it creeps any & readjust.

Exactly! Make sure that when you twist the one end of the string you twist It In the exact other direction on the other end. Don't let go of the string either before you put It back on the bow, It will unravel. Been there done that one a million times!:bash:

Every string that I've had has been twisted In opposite directions from one end to the other. Maybe I'm In the minority here. What about you all?

Steve, I just twist from one end making sure the entire string twists not just above the serving! Do you notice a difference when you do both ends??

I figure when I do both ends It's getting twisted evenly. I'll twist both ends the same amount of twists.

Jeff, maybe I'm just too nit picky but I figure that the serving Is going to not allow the string to twist as much on the other end. Maybe I'm wrong and just being too picky, just the way I do It I guess.
