    Is this a good idea?

Ill be getting to my lease around midnight and may be hunting a new area. Is it smart to go check out the area and even get my climber started on a tree and clear the area a little so I'm quieter in the morning?

I went into an area blind because my other stands would work with the wind. Took my climber in next to a staging area by a corn field at 2:00 pm, arrowed a 10 pointer at 6:00. So yeah go for it

whatever makes you a quieter, more comfortable hunter when the time comes. I often scout and find a tree for my climber. HUt the evening, if I feel it is a great spot for the next morning, I leave it set-up on the tree. Saves a bunch of pain and stress of taking down and setting up and lets you slip in and out more quietly! I say go for it!
