Alright, I am seriously considering getting the alpha and probably 4 or 5 sticks and am wondering how do you guys set up quickly with minimum effort going up and down the tree?

My thoughts were having webbing or cord attached to each stick, attaching the first stick, pulling up the second, pulling up the third, etc and finally either having a second haul rope for the stand or wearing it on my back the whole way up. That way I only have to climb up the tree once and start hunting.

    Thoughts/recommendations

I'll be doing it most all season on public land, so I'll be packing out every time too.

    Thanks guys

My thoughts are, maybe a climbing stand (LW) would be a better idea? Unless you already have one, or these trees you'll be climbing won't allow one?

A Lone Wolf climber is a possibility and something I will be considering, but many of the trees I'll be using have branches below my intended height

I've got a LW Assault hang-on for the really nasty ones. I do use my climber 98% of the time though.

A few times setting up your Alpha and you'll get the hang of it pretty easy, then be able to hang that stand in any tree you want to! I sold my climber and go 100% Alpha for every hunt, set it upand take it down each sit!

after i set up i take only the bottom 2 sticks out with me after each time then only re-set the 2 and is easy in and out , that way u dont do as much and if someone is looking to take it they have to work haed to get it . that is my set up on state land and has worked for me for 3 years now . i have 2 set ups like that so i can play the wind game

I have a rope that is attached to the stand, and one attached to my pack for the bow. 4 sticks should be enough to get you to 22-25'. I put the first 3 up one at a time (climbing down each time), and on the fourth one I will attach the stand rope to me, put it up, then pull stand up, and once in it and attached to the tree pull the bow up. Takes about 11-15minutes to put up. Pulling it and getting the sticks and straps back together in the dark is fun part. Takes at least 20 minutes! I use two bungee cords to hold the sticks to the stand and also squeeze my back pack in there too. The worst part about sitting the stand waiting for deer is dreading pulling the set in the dark! It is not as easy or fun or stealthy as alot of ATers, would have you beleive. I use my summit climber 97% of the time but this is nice when you know you are going into an area where there are no straight trees or in the late season when you want to get into the crooks of trees. I attached some pics to show how I strap them together, and how I silenced them with hockey tape.

After two seasons with an Alpha and sticks I've pretty much retired my climber to.

I used a climber a few times and never felt comfortable with it. This year I used an Ameristep stand and Rapid Rails, and have since purchased and Assault and 3 LW sticks. The Assault is the easiest and quietest stand I have ever used. I am still mastering getting them up and down quickly though.

    How I do it ...

Make loops with weed eater string and hang stick #3 and #4 from your belt, fanny pack, etc.. Put #1 on from the ground; climb on it and hang #2. Keep climbing and grab the other sticks and hang them as you go up. Attach the EZ strap then pull the stand from your back and hang it.

I hang the first one and second one.

Put my lineman rope on and lay sticks 3 and 4, with a rope on the stand and my bow/butt pack.

I climb up, lay in three and then do the same for four with the stick across my lineman rope.

I wear the quick hook around my neck, strap that on and pull up the stand.
Set it in, (after moving the lineman rope PAST the top). I then put my HSS strap in place and tie in to that before I remove my lineman rope ( I used to hug the tree, change it from lineman to overhead tie in but that honestly scared the crap out of me.)

I then pull my bow and pack up after putting a bow holder in the tree.

I have never used a climber so have nothing to compare it to.

I am also getting an Alpha and plan to use the Assault and Alpha for my son and I. Same steps, put up both stands, climb across the Assault into the Alpha. Tie my son into the HSS overhead (his) and have him climb tied with me holding that rope into the Assault. This is all theoretical at this point, have not purchased the Alpha yet.

Not sure if this helps but here we go. I put 1 and 2 together and attatch 3 to my belt. I strap 1 to the tree snug and climb w/ linemans belt half way up 1 and fasten 2 snug...climb to the top of 1 and you can reach the top of 2 to fasten...then do the same with 3. The whole time I leave my stand on the ground with a 30 ft rope attached to my belt. After fastening 3 I put a tree step in right above 3 and take the rope and use it like a pulley to make it easier and quieter to pull up my stand. It won't bang against the tree as much and it's a lot easier because the weight of the stand is on the step. Get it up there and strap it down! You can climb down and get your bow...have another rope for your bow...or get a bow sling so you can carry it on your back. If you get the sling you will never have to climb down and you can do everything step by step and your in the tree. Sorry if this was lengthy!
