When you are setting up in the morning, and its still dark, do you use a light? I admit, I have not hunted in the ornigs much. Short story, I am not a morning person. I went out this morning, and was in my tree 45 minutes before first light. I have a headlamp that has white, and green lights. I kept the green light on while setting up in my tree. What do you all do?
I don't use a light at all while I'm hunting, unless I'm following a blood trail of course. That being said I hunt a small property and know exactly where I'm going and how everything sets up. If I was hunting somewhere new I would probably try to use a small red light so that my night vision doesn't get screwed up too much.
Recently i have been using a flash light walking to the tree i climb in. Only because i am a little scared of the dark on this property. My youth pastor (who is the property owner) said he had a mountain lion walk under his stand one time. I get a little scared walking in all alone wondering if there is something waiting for me haha Normally i don't use a light. Will probably stop using one he shortly.
I use a red head lamp, but only when absolutely necessary (picking a tree, attaching the climber). Didn't seem to bother the deer at all. I had two does under my tree about 5 minutes after getting set up last Saturday morning. One of those does is now resting comfortably in my freezer.
I never use a light. Generally the moon is bright enough for me. On cloudy days I make due. But I live in Iowa with nothing to be really scared of.
Stands I have hung already I never use light and when im using my climber looking for new trees I do. So have any of you seen negative reactions to using a light?
I use a red led headlamp to get to the tree, then turn it off while setting up and climbing. I like the light only because it aids me in being as quiet as possible getting to the tree. I firmly believe the light does not spook deer nearly as badly as the sound of me walking. I live and hunt around lots of bears but they are the least of my worries.
