I bought my Illusion in March of 2008 new and I have had to replace my strings and cables 3 times since then. The original string frayed around my peep which I understand the origianal strings are not always the best, then my new string I bought around July of 08 and used it through the 08 hunting season. Then I notice where the cable goes on to my inner cam the serving had been worn out. Then I bought custom strings and new cables in May of this year and the serving on my cable is separating and looking worn out already. I asked Gander and the guy there said that this just happens with single cam bows. The way things are going I will need to get more new cables again shortly. This is too much in that short of a span. Any Ideas of what could be wrong, or do single cam bows really do this that much?
Perhaps there is some slight, or more, cam lean and the cable doesn't seat in the track correctly as it rotates, causing wear. I do not think this, string/serving wear, is something that should just happen with any bow.
I don't see any cam lean at all, but my cable slide arm is curved away and it seams to be making my cable come in at a slight angle by the inner cam. Maybe that is it. I'll have to check with gander and see what they say.
This happens sometimes with my single cam bow, i just take it to my local proshop and get it reserved. Only cost about eight bucks.
I had this cable serving sepatation issue on a mathews bow that had a max cam. And when reserved the new serving would split within weeks. I put a Winners Choice cable on it and it has been fine for months now. Winners Choice says they garantee no serving sepatation for 1 year. If you do a google search you can buy them over the internet.
Hey thanks tommyt. One question though. I had just bought this orange and brown twist custom string, and the string is perfect can I just get the shorter cable or do you have to buy both cable and string.
