I have a 92 Chevy that the serpentine belt keeps slipping off of. I have replaced the alternator and one of the pulleys. Are there any automotive mechanics out there that might be able to point me in the direction of the remedy to this problem. TIA
My old neighbor's belt kept coming off because the spring on his tensioner was weak and whenever the rpm's went up, the belt came off. New tensioner fixed it.
I'd check the tensioner and idler pulley, weak tensioner is a common thing, especially on older vehicles. If the bearings have too much play in the idler pulley it can cause the pulley to cant and roll the belt off. Also if anything belt driven has been replaced recently I'd also check alignment. How fast does the belt come off normally? If it's fairly quick and repeatable put it back on, start it and shut it off quickly. You should be able to see the belt either sliding off the tensioner/idler pulleys or riding up the lip of a driven pulley. If the belt has been replaced recently make sure that it is the correct length as well
Recently changed mine on the power stroke. Simple to figure out but can't say with the Chevy brother. Most likely needs a new belt and tension is loose somewhere. Best a luck.
Check to see if your tensioner pulley has the bearings shot, does the pulley have alot of play in it?
