I took nothing out of context. I quoted your entire post. Shirley's comment though, was not directed at you, but at "some folks" who get upset too easily.
It is a cute picture but since I did not serve in the military I dont think I should be able to say either way. The answer should be decided by our active duty and veterans.
My husband is a veteran (Army), and he has no problem with it. He thinks it probably violates the flag code, but it's not disrespectful of the flag. That makes the difference. He did point out that he believes the flag is for all of us, not just active duty and vets.

Yes similar to that. I have never saw a plastic one like that though. I have only saw cloth flags up here.
You're an American, Tom, so your opinion holds the same weight as the opinion of any veteran or active duty service member. The military serves the country, not the flag. As a general rule, military personnel develop a stronger respect for our national ensign, but it's the symbol of our nation, not our military.
I saw this on world news last night. I then went online and read some more. Some of the comments I read about people who feel it's wrong just blew me away. Such as one person stating it is a disgrace to our country and misuse of the uniform and they should be discharged from the service. That really struck me wrong. These people fight for our country. They represent our country. I feel they have every right to be proud of their image.
I mean...I don't get it. She could be a veteran. Her husband could be a veteran. Or she could just be a proud American. Is it just because she is Muslim?
If you don't get it then you don't get it. That's fine. I guarantee you that there are hundreds of thousands of us who do get it.
Kids in Mizz don't get to say the pledge every morning? That was the first thing my four year old learned this year when he started pre school. Schools here still say it first thing every morning. The pic looks fine to me.
I actually took the time to copy the pic, paste it and zoom in. What I thought was an actual American flag isn't. It's just cloth with stars and stripes, so like the other examples, while I find it distasteful I suppose I have to back-track and say I don't have a problem with it. No more so than Ted's shirt or the future you that germ posted. As to the unAmerican comment, well, I'll just leave that alone.
It's different to me. If it's not different to you then so be it. We all have our own views and differing opinions. Have a good weekend.
