Ok so i bought my Heli-m and love it. Bought the new Injexion arrows and love em. Then a buddy of mine suggested shooting in some 3d tournaments, mainly for fun, but also to improve my skills. Well as any of you know who shoot 3D apparently tiny arrows aren't the in thing. Obviously my Easton Injexions do not shoot the same as my Easton Fatboys. As In I don't think I could guess yardage and guess how far I should off aim during a tourny. So my delima is simple: 1) - Move pins to set for the fatboys and move them back for my injexions before hunting season. (My issue with this is that my injexions are set right where I want them. I honestly don't know that I want to deal with trying to get it shooting just like it is now come hunting season. Would it be impossible no, but I'm very very happy with it right now and don't want to fudge it) 2) - Just shoot the injexions (nothing wrong with doing this though I'd know going in I'm going to be giving up some serious points due to not cutting lines) 3) - Buy another bow for 3D (now let me preface this statement by saying I'm now hooked on archery so having another bow is not going to hurt my feelings. However my question regarding doing this is simple, if I'm going to buy a new bow do I need to buy an identical bow and setup so that my shooting in 3D is vurtually just like my shooting will be during the season. I'm talking draw, weight, back wall etc not shot placement. Or would having a completley different bow not really have any effect on how I'm going to shoot coming deer season. I'm just interested in your suggestions and what a good bit of the 3d crowd is doing. I'm ok with either option, but am mainly looking at what is best for me as far as being an all around good shooter come next deer season. This was my first season with a bow and I only had 3 days in the woods, and never made full draw on anything. Next year we have a trip to Illinois planned for 5 days and I want to give myself and the animal I hope to harvest the best I got.
First off, you wont be giving up serious points if shooting ibo. If shooting ASA where a missed line MIGHT cost you 4 points then you may want to go with the fatshafts. But if your shooting 4 fun stay with your hunting shaft. If serious competition is your goal then get a competition setup and compete. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
I have to agree with Tfox, if your just shooting to get your feet wet and have fun then you will be better off in the hunting woods if you shoot your current set-up. There is nothing wrong with the set-up you have going now. I know a lot of shooters, good shooters, who use small shafts for 3d. If you are serious about the competition side of it then you will be better off with a second bow.
agree with innerx, i shoot same set up for 3-d as i do hunting, (other than the broadheads) years ago i was fortunate and lucky enough to place second in the fingers division at the ibo world championships. i was shooting my hunting equiptment back then also. still shoot 3-d but now i don't turn in scores, only shoot to prepare for upcoming season. i think it is best practice you can get as far as judging distance etc. for me it is the fun aspect now, however to get back to question, it is entirely up to you . probably shoot better score if set up with 3-d equiptment if that is what your looking for. if wanting to prepare for bowhunting season then don't worry so much about it and go out and enjoy yourself! believe me, you can still shoot a good score with hunting equiptment!!!!
If its for fun or just to stay sharp for hunting, I would stick to your hunting set up. When you get serious, buy another bow and set it up for competition. You don't need the same model either. This year will be the first time using the same model for 3-D and hunting for me. In the past, always had to different models. Although fat shafts offer better line cutting capabilities, I use them because it takes allot less effort to remove them. Before hunting season arrives I will go to a local shoot with my hunting rig. I use Easton PH and they suck pulling out of targets! Food for thought.
