Just curious what you guys would recommend for a HD video camera for self filming for the first time. I am looking for a budget cam, but want something that I won't need to replace right away. Is there anything in the $150-300 range that fits the bill? I would still need to add a tree arm and mic. Just want to highlight that I don't want to feel the need to upgrade right away. I plan to use a GoPro as a second angle. Thanks guys!
i picked up a flip hd cant really zoom in because it gets fuzzy but out to 25/30 yrds its a clean picture.I picked it up for around 50 dollars on ebay. Not the best but if your on a budget its not bad 2012 Doe Kill - YouTube
Let me start by saying I am not a professional but just a bow hunter that likes to film my hunts. I started off with inexpensive cameras ($300) and the video was not very good. The main thing you are up against is low light conditions. The cheaper camcorders just can not gather enough light during sunrise and dusk. And we all know this is when the deer are moving The Canon HF G10 was released in 2011 and has very good reviews in low light conditions. Canon just marked down the refurbished models to $500 bucks. The camera also needs some kind of remote zoom and focus control. I don't mean a little wireless remote control, I mean something like the Varizoom. In my opinion the Varizoom(or equivalent) is much more important than a microphone. I self filmed without a good remote unit last year and it is so freaking frustrating. You might consider holding off on buying the GoPro and use that towards a better main camera and a controller.
Thanks for the info! I already have a GoPro. Use it to make fly fishing videos. Low light is a concern of mine. What I don't want to do is buy a camera and end up replacing it after a year or two because it doesn't perform.
Not bad - something like that would work on my land in NH but I would like to be able to zoom a bit. Tough to beat $50 though.
Its not technically HD, but pretty dang close. I've seen several Canon GL1s and others like that for around $400-$500 on ebay. These are Pro quality miniDV cameras, not the nicer and newer flash memory cameras. They take longer to put on computer but give you great quality and you cant beat the price on ebay. Saw some on amazon for $2-$3k.
