This is for anyone who may record their hunts. I am wanting to get into self filming and I am trying to find out from fellow hunters who self film what's a good camera/camcorder to start out with or use? I am not in a position where I can go out or drop several thousand dollars on a fancy camera but I want something that will record quality video and audio for myself as well as when I take my daughter with me. What are some things I should look for as far as options on the camera (zoom, accessories, mega pixels, etc...).What are some things that you guys who film say are a must (how many spare batteries should I have, what size SD cards, what's a good add on microphone to use, what kind of camera arm for the tree, etc...). Thanks in advance for any guidance you guys can give me!

I just use a Sony handycam, it is pretty good quality, you would probably want to add a mic to it though! I just record right on the camera and then plug in to my computer to download the film. I keep two batteries could probably have a few more, I use a real tree camera arm with the muddy micro mount

I’m no help but I will say that there has been several threads on this subject. I’m sure you can do a search and find everything you need. Good luck.

    Great questions.

I have been self filming for around 10 years now and absolutely love it.

My best advice would be to make everythign light, so you can fit it all in one pack. The essentials:

    Fourth Arrow tree arm.
Manfrotto head. Buy one to fit your camera size.
Camcorder. All depends on budget, but stay small. You want 20x zoom., at least 1080p with 4k preferred.
    Shotgun mic. I prefer RODEs.
Accessories. 32gb memory cards or bigger. 2-3 extra batteries. Remote if your camera has the option (makes life easier).

After you have your setup (which is gong cost around $1500-2000 for anything decent), then you can get into editing equipment. Thats for a different thread. Any questions feel free to ask!

Canon G30 is a good one to start with. Fourth arrow Camera arm, Manfrotto 700RC2 Fluid Head and Manfrotto Tripod. Rode mics are very good and they are not expensive.
