Guys, I'm looking at making some upgrades for this year. I used an Alpz Big Bear the last two season for my self filming gear and it's been great for the price but it's beginning to get in rough shape. I love the layout though. I'm looking at the Badlands filming pack but I was looking for opinions and first hand experience. I also used the muddy outfitter arm and was fairly happy. I sold my previous setup and I'm piecing another one back together now and upgrading a little. I went with the G40 to upgrade from my G20. What's the consensus on the best camera arm option in that price range. The 4th arrow stiff arm is intriguing with the shoulder joint, and if I had to make a choice now, it'd be that one but I want to hear what everyone thinks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have a Lowepro Pro Tactic 450 camera bag and I absolutely love it. I've been using it to haul a pile of camera gear all summer and will use it this Fall for hunting, including my trip to Wyoming to film Todd. I've just never been impressed with any hunting camera bag I've found, so I decided to go with a straight up photo bag. The hybrid Molle strap system is pretty nice and offers a ton of customization options. I ponied up for the Limited Edition that is grey & digital camo, but you could certainly save a few $ and go with black.
The Badlands Camera Day Pack combined with the Fourth Arrow stiff arm has done me well. I don't carry a ton of equipment with me like Fitz does, so the need for a full-on camera bag just wasn't there. I'm hauling my camera arm/base/shoulder, Sony AX100, GoPro, Muddy Micro mount, Rode VideoMic Pro and a couple extra batteries. Outside of that I have my licenses, grunt tube, hand warmers and some other misc small items. That system has worked great for me. I would like the pack to be maybe 15-20% larger as it does get tight if I do want to bring extra gear, but I've made it work without too much of a hassle.
I switched from the Muddy to the 4th Arrow and have no complaints. I was able to get 5 bases cheaper than buying one for the Muddy and now usually don't have to carry that piece any more. This makes setup much faster and quiet. I leave one base in the truck just in case I have to go to a stand that doesn't have one. Now with the extension arm the 4th arrow arm has more reach than the Muddy as well. The Badlands Day pack is ok but its a little on the small size. Thats ok if all you put in it is camera gear and limited small things. I personally don't think its worth the price points.
Mine was the alps pathfinder not the big bear. If I were to get the Badlands, I think I would go ahead and get the big one Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I wonder if that is wide enough for me to slip my PXW-X70 in the bottom compartment, being able to access it from the side. That would be pretty slick, then i could put the A6300 in the top. Looks like it would have enough room for my monitor and other accessories.
Here's how I currently have it packed for video work: Drone, controller 2 xtra batteries, xtra props Canon 70d Sony a6300 xtra batteries, external batteries two Rode Video Mic Pros, Rode Filmmaker Kit wireless mics, Zoom H1 audio recorder, lav mic, LED light, goPro, and a bunch of misc stuff. I can throw my ipad pro in there too if need be Ton of space. I'll thin it out for hunting and add calls, scents, and other hunting crap.
Bringing this back up. I've gotta get something soon. It must have at least a couple lashing points to get clothes, camera arm, etc on Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I added a TribeOne Mini-Net to my pack for elk hunting in Wyoming. It works great. You can add a bungie net to any pack. I'll be using it all season.
