What do you guys use for general purpose self defense rounds? Some of you might remember, I bought a Para Ordnance 14-45 this past winter. I'm looking for some hollow points to keep in the magazine.

    What's everyone's poison of choice?

I believe hornady makes a specific self defense round that's a hollow point. I could be wrong so don't quote me on that. All I know is if your gonna buy self defense rounds make sure it ain't the cheap chit lol

Yeah, it's called Hornady Critical Defense for $50 for 50 cartridges. I actually almost bought a box last week, but wanted to see what else was out there before I made a decision

Im of the opinion that any bullet will do the purpose. I buy the cheapest hollow points i can find on sale (of brands I have at least heard of).

For target shooting I bought a case or two of some FMJ .45s on Cabelas over the winter. Dirt cheap, I can't even remember the name its so obscure though lol

I use Winchester PDX1 bonded JHP. IMHO if its good enough for the FBI to carry every day it's good enough for me.....

I just go to cableas and buy the cheaper stuff. Winchester 230 gr hollow points for $34 for my 45. Winchester 180 gr hollow points for $29 for my 40. That is for a box of 50 rounds. Both my SW and Glock like them.

I also have the Hornady self defense ammo, but I carry a 9mm Glock 26 and the Winchester is 147 grains whereas the Hornady is only 115 grains. I keep the Hornady in my S&W Sigma for home defense. Both are good personal defense rounds but if a I'm shooting in my home I want the smaller rounds for wall pass through (I hope they won't hold up as well going through a wall). Check out Tnoutdoors9 on YouTube, he does a lot of ballistic gel testing for personal defense ammo and has some great info!

3 dogs. All very protective of Barb !!

2 small ones to annoy and deter an intruder with all the barking... eeerrrr yapping. Kick out the big one to put some fear in them. Nobody is getting in the house without us knowing. Ask Troy ( shed33 ) about our beloved house pets.

If that ain't scarey enough... this is roaming outside of the house...

I'm using the Hornady TAP FPD 200gr +p's. For plinking I'm using Sellier & Bellot 230gr loads that I got in a 1k round bulk buy discount from Cabelas.

A lot of the guy I work with carry Hornady Critical Defense or Speer in our off duty guns. I carry Speer Gold Dot personal protection in my LCP. We also carry Speer in our service weapons, Remington in our AR's, and Federal I think in our shotguns.

You pump a couple of .38+ rounds in a person, regardless of brand and they are going to feel it quick.

Yeah, I would hope so! I'm more of a go big or go home kind of person, which would explain why my other hand cannon is a .44 mag.

I picked up a box of Hornady Critical Defense today, simply because I had some reward points at ****s Sporting Goods that I had I use up. They should be more than enough for any troublesome 2 or 4 legged critters. I hope I don't have to use them, but better safe than sorry!
