heya folks, well, im a rookie to the sport of bow hunting this fall. I live in NE Iowa and have been granted permission to hunt at on a friends land. This place is just an outstanding setup that nobody has really hunted. its got grass and clover fields, a pond, and unharvested (but soon to be) cornfield, and many acres of timber that is kinda hilly with a big gully. Anyway, the place has tons of character. So my friend and the neighbor border a grass field that the deer approx. 15 does, 3 smaller bucks, a non-typical seen in area, and the "big one" seen only once...but seen! The field has great character and borders the large patch of timber/where the gully runs parrallel too and just outstanding deer traffic through this area. The problem i need some explaining done is: First, the area is pretty active with human activity too, but the land owner says they are almost never bothered by their presence outside and the deer are very acclimated to humans, while they are feeding/ in the field. Should this be a concern for me since the deer and humans are in such close proximity? (its not settling well in my head that i put my tree stand up there) second, Since i've been hunting there(4times) since the opening day of iowa bow season(oct. 1st) i have had lots of luck with getting pretty good traffic, until the last 2 days. besides today spooking a couple of deer out while i was going in and does sniffy at something in the air. i dont believe i have really been found out. DEER ARE VERY CLEVER THOUGH =? do you think since they havent been very active during their normal routine hours the land owner usually sees them at, they have picked up on me? i put two spots of buckjam down to see if there's activity and WOW! ripped the growned apart where it was, and then put a trail cam up at the end of a finger leading up to my trees stand where i think they cross the road. I know they are all still there but i'm getting pretty nervous that they seem to maybe only come out in such large packs when im not there, or past night time when i'm unable to get shot at them(legally!) fourth, WHAT DO I DO? should i put tree stand and camera up further into timber? i dont think so cause i want to keep short and quiet access to decent tree stand. should i keep calm since rut is coming soon and keep waiting for that luck? i think best option if i leave stand alone for a couple weeks. is that a waist of hunting time to leave my stand alone for weeks until late october early november? i think so THANX AGAIN AND SO FAR I LOVE BOWHUNTING MUCH MORE THAN FIREARMS!!!EVERYDAY IS A NEW RUSH thanx, NE iowan
