I hunt public land and I use a climbing treestand, until last year I didn't have any problems until some SOB decided they needed my stand more than I.I know I can put a cable around most of it but what about the cables so someone doesn't steal them too?I will still be hunting on public land but in another area. Thanks for your help, and by the way I'm a new member here.

Since your using a climber why not carry it in and out with you?

    I'm wondering this as well?

If you're dead set on leaving your climber in the woods then a cable lock will keep an honest man honest, thats about it. I doubt many hunters walk around with hacksaws and bolt cutters anyway. Do you leave your stand out during the day, overnight, or days at a time?

Honestly, I'm thinking you're just asking to get another stand stolen. Good luck though!

Using a cable is about the only thing you can do. I also pile leaves and sticks up on mine to try and hide it some.

This is the first thing i thought. I would never leave my climber in the woods. It is easy enough to carry in and out every hunt. It's not worth getting it stolen.

I learned the hard way like you. Now I pack it in and out.

Leaving a climber at the base of a tree is also like leaving a human scent wick at nose level for deer to smell all night long. I think you'd be begging to burn out a stand location.

Other than using one of those master locks that have the long shanks in every hole that has a pin in it and a couple cable locks, I'd have to say taking it with you is the only way to keep it from getting stolen. Guess you could install a small car alarm on it with a lawn mower battery. That may just stop them from taking it.

    Thanks Guys

I appreciatae all the replies and I guess I'll do just that.I have left my ladder stand and climbing stands in the woods for weeks without any problems.I've even seen other hunters tree stands in the woods unsecure but it would never cross my mind to mess with them,I was taught if it ain't yours don't touch. Thanks for the suggestions.

I wish everyone thought that way. If I worry about a stand getting stolen I use a climber. Friends farms are where I put up ladders.

Back that bad boy in and out, that's the only 100% theft proof method.

I have never even thought of leaving my stand on public land not to mention that I have never even hunted public land where you are allowed to leave stands. I don't have the money to keep replacing them so I would just never do it.
