After my illegal deer fiasco I almost hung up my camo for the season. I was that disgusted with myself and just totally disheartened. My wife suggested I just go hunting to relax and get my head back together. She suggested I take the longbow. She mentioned hearing me speak of how simple and low pressure traditional hunting is for me. I took her up on it and found not just the peace I was looking for but a nice fat doe for the freezer. Carie has always been supportive and seems to always know what I need. She was right as usual.
Sunday morning found me 18' up in a pine tree. I was sitting in a stand overlooking an intersection of a trail and a logging road. There is an active scrape on each side of the logging road where the trail meets it. I have had a camera on one scrape for the past 3 weeks. In that 3 week span I had over 400 pics of a number of different deer. Of several LEGAL bucks only one showed up during daylight, one time, and I was at work. A number of does and small bucks showed up on a daily basis. I can find where the deer live and travel, I just can't seem to kill them consistantly. As I mentioned once before, I suck at bowhunting.
Anyway, at 8:05 two does came down the trail from my right. The bigger of the two was leading. They got behind a couple of Cedars giving me an opportunity to draw. At 5 yards she caught a Zwickey Eskimo through both lungs. She ran about 25 yds and fell in sight.
My wife and this doe salvaged my season and perhaps even my future of bowhunting.

To my team mates, I'm sorry I didn't get pics with me and the bow. I didn't have any camera but my phone and I was hunting alone.

How can the deer be only 5 yards away when you were 6 yards up in the tree? ;)

    Kidding of course. Congrats.
