I live and hunt in PA and I think anyone else that does understands what happens by rifle season. Atleast around my house it sounds like world war three and the deer are running 100 mph for two weeks straight. If I can with stand the cold weather I'm thinking about spending some extra time in the woods. Has anyone had any luck in second season archery in PA?
Yeah its not to bad...if you can stand the cold as you said. Gotta find out what they eat that time of the year in your area. Thats where they will be. Im sure ill be out there as well...if its to cold to draw a bow then ill take out the flintlock, but I sure hope I can stick with the bow.
I go out every year in the late season. I've taken a few deer in the late season so it definitely is possible. Rifles season is ridiculous around here.
Late season is great because bucks have been shuffled around and you will see new bucks. Also they are predictable because of the need for food.
We have a short late bow season in NY, now it runs currently with the MZ season. I bow hunted that season only once when I had unfilled bow buck tag...tagged out with a big bodied 7 pointer on the last day. I have killed much better deer over the years but that guy stands out in my mind and is one of my most favorite trophies. I seen him twice before killing him both on afternoon sits and seen no other buck during that week of hunting. It was like he was the last man standing after the gun season. So get out there if can, tough it out and maybe score..... One late season tip. Forget morning sits for the most part your burning yourself and your spots out....so save your energy and go out in the afternoon and hunt over food sources.
Its all about food sources in late season. I'll hopefully be getting out 2nd season after the "war zone" of what is known as PA rifle season is over. Good luck.
