We are talking about 2011, not this year. For this year, an argument could certainly be made, but Alabamas resume is still more impressive for this year to most viewers. Moot point as neither are going ha

Oh please, the team that lost to unranked Iowa State? That would be an even bigger joke than Bama getting in.

Sigh.... This has been hashed out too many times to try again. Some put emphasis on conference titles, others on who has the better wins/losses and who is the better team. I personally feel like coming in second in NASCAR Sprint Cup is more impressive than taking home a dirt track championship, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

The goal of the MNC is to determine who is the best team in the land. A team cannot be the best team in the land if it is not the best team in its own conference. It’s not that hard to understand.

See Alabama 2011. Clearly the better team over LSU, both of which were the best two teams. How is it so hard for some to understand?

The reason I DON'T buy into automatic bids and conference titles is because I too believe it should solely be about who the best teams are and nothing more.

I have won my fantasy league 3 years in a row, therefore I am more knowledgable about football than John Gruden since he lost in his league last year. That's the logic you guys are trying to get me to buy into.

If we believe the regular season matters, how can you excuse a loss to unranked Iowa State over an OT loss to #1 LSU in a game that you missed 5 field goals? You don't.

Good grief. At least we won't have this debate much after this year.

Clearly? Pretty sure it was 1-1 for them in 2011. With LSU beating Bama AT HOME.

2 best teams based on perception. People love saying that the CFB regular season is their playoff. So LSU goes to Bama and beats them AT HOME. How are they rewarded? By Bama getting a mulligan.

Obviously you do not believe the regular season matters if you think Bama getting a mulligan against LSU was the correct thing.

How was LSU rewarded? By a freakin bid to the Championship lol. You mean they should get an easier opponent because they beat Bama already? LSU wins out, gets their bid. Now you look at everyone else for the second spot (second pick is NOT used to reward the top team lol) basically comes down to Bama or Ok St. Both had several solid wins, so it came down to their sole loss. The Cowboys had an embarrassing loss, Bama didn't.

Most fans without a dog in that fight thought Bama played better in both outings, their kicker just sucked the first time. if some other team wins out they don't get a bid and they don't deserve the bid. no one else did, so with equal records they had the best resume left. They dominated LSU in that championship as bad as they did ND last year. Those were clearly the two best teams.

This whole conversation is why football sucks to me. There should be zero argument over this. An 8 team playoff starting with the 4 BCS bowls would solve it all. No AQs, no BS. Top 8 teams make the BCS bowls and play into a spot for the championship. Vegas and most football fans across the nation believe FSU and Bama to be the top two teams this year but we won't see that matchup. Dumb (even though I agree Auburn deserves the bid in the current system).

I guess my question for every game counting....

Do you fault Bama for losing to LSU more than you fault Oklahoma State for losing to Iowa State?

Purple and Yellow blinders off, can you honestly answer yes to that?

I fault Bama for not winning their own division.

Thank god they are finally going to a playoff, too bad they didn't get that right either. At least the top 4 teams will have a chance. What I can't stand about the current system, is that there are 5 or 6 teams that tend to get a pass if they lose, and the rest of the teams chances at a NC are completely gone. It happens every year.

BTW, Alabama would still be undefeated if it weren't for their coaches arrogance.

It's a wonder how "dirt track" teams like A&M and Mizzou have managed to hold their own since coming to the SEC? At least the OSU loss was on the road. Bama also had the advantage of not having to play an extra game versus a quality opponent
    (conference championship).

Both OSU and MSU were "on the road." The game was played in Indianapolis.

He was talking about the Oklahoma State (OSU) loss in 2011.
