    Sorry, hope you recover fast.
This is why I always ( with 16 ladderstands up) always tie 2 ropes to it and tie off said ropes to trees behind it or have friends hold them while taking down or putting up. Works perfect and makes it safe for all sizes.

I’m hearing all sorts of bad news for my surgeries and recovery. The calcaneu (heel bone) is one of the worst bones to break. Mine is completed shattered. Lots of physical therapy and will prob have a limp

Same thing happened to me two years ago, mine was 15 feet instead of 20. I had someone hold the bottom while I undid the top. As soon as I undid the strap the stand bent in the middle and down I went. I landed on my back pretty hard but no serious injury. From now on I will never undo another ladder stand unless someone has a rope tied to the top and then lashed around the tree so that it cannot fall back.

    I’m praying you Recover quickly

I bought some Lone Wolf sticks so I can go up the backside of the ladder stand and do all the strap related work without having to be on the stand itself. Light weight and packable solution so you don't have to drag a full size ladder into the woods.

so you didnt have the adjustable supporter bar attached yet?

not to sound cold but you'll get nowhere with manufacturer, theyll say user error as the ladder is designed to be supported in the middle by the support to strap to tree to keep this exact thing from happening.
also all ladder stands are tubual framed, could you imagine the weight of a stand that isnt hollow?

i hope you heal quickly but i wouldnt waste my time pursuing the manufacturer

So sorry to hear how hurt you are. Like you said, luckily you didn't break your back! Get better and don't rush through your rehab. Do everything they tell you to do, no matter how silly it sounds, its for a reason!! Best of luck.

Perhaps I missed it but what brand of ladder stand was this. I have taken ladder stands down in this same fashion in the past but recently have been making sure to have straps or ropes attached to the top of the stand and tightened around the tree. Had not seen a ladder bend like that and it is certainly a wake up call. Thanks for sharing and hope that you have a full recovery.

I have a few Big Game stands but most of my 20 ft. ones were the ones with the double frame ladder.

Holy crap, this is the brand I have which I took down because it didn't feel safe!

Yeah, I looked down the ladder rail and it was already twisting, looking like it could buckle on me!
