Everyone- Well, we win some and loose some. For me I lost this one. I was able to take a doe early in October and passed on a few in November and seen a few nice bucks. I hunted some and found some great spots (thanks meltonman and gri22ly). I re-opened thinking outside the box this past season and began to think more like a whitetail than ever. But, with poor finances and no job has left me eating my tags once again this year. I hadn't been able to have a single sit since November the 7th!!! Ouch!! I guess I learned more than ever in this past season than ever. I suppose I'm venting, because I didn't get to go as much as I would have liked, and that probably goes for most of us in here. But, I'm already looking forward to fall 2010 season! 233 Days left! It's almost here! Tell us what you learned or experienced this year (pics please)
It was my first year so I learned a bunch. After taking a poor shot and rushing myself on the first decent buck I saw. I really learned to slow down, be patient and wait for the perfect shot, not one that seems okay. I also learned that I can't just see where some deer were at, go set up there and expect to see things. It has really helped me get motivated to do a bunch of off season scouting and be WAY more prepared for next year. After reading a bunch on this site I've learned alot about helping maintain your hunting land and deer there. I did get to shoot and recover my first buck and that was a great experience and has made me more addicted to hunting than I thought I could be.
Hey Gri22, I can't tell you where my "secret spot" is, but he's a nice 140" buck...wait you got trail cam pics of him!! haha. STILL got Browtine out there! I can't wait already!
I always strive to learn more about the Bucks and the way they move through the property I hunt even though I have hunted it since the 80's. If you quit learning you are probably forgetting, and that's Not a Good thing. I am still running my Trail Cams to see what is left after gun season and so far it is encouraging. I'll probably pull all my cams out at the end of Jan. and then start back with the same routine in March checking mineral licks and then setting cams up in July. There really Never is an Offseason. Trail Cams, Scouting, putting up stands, taking down stands, shed hunting, shooting, keeping equipment in top shape, etc., etc. Dan
