Deer hunting on the brain 100%. Passed a sign that said "sheds for sale"... Immediately thought of antlers but they were buildings. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I was planning on setting my last 2 stands today, but life threw a hurdle in my way lol.. Checking/organizing/prepping equipment instead. Three weeks to "go-time"! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
2 weeks here. Nothing deer or hunting related for me this weekend. Relaxing at leech lake doing some walleye fishing! Deer mode starts Tuesday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Still have plenty of work to do... A few stands yet to be hung - just waiting for the weather to break it has been pretty hot and humid around here which makes for zero fun hanging stands. Excited for October 1.
Sheesh... I hope this pattern breaks within the next couple weeks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I made the switch... Got a pack of Rage heads today. Can't break them in until later in the week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
X2! This was the first time in ~15 years that I did not plant a sunflower field for dove (my fields were too wet in May). I heard the cadence of shooting on a distant farm over the labor day weekend, and I drew nostalgic. My sunflower field in 2013: -fsh
Apologies for leavin yuall hangin... It was a good time, as always, but rain sure messed up the flyin. Opening morning it poured on us before daybreak and rained for a couple of hours during flight time - less than average numbers I'd say. I killed 3. Mid day we went scouting some other areas we'd had success on previous. This WMA is 30k acres. The area we wanted to hunt that evening was pretty crowded, so we went to another area. It had been raining off & on all day. We only saw 2 birds in flight that evening and very few shots heard. Talking to other hunters, they had similar results. Friday morning was overcast but at least not raining - still with less than average flight. I killed 6. We scouted a new addition to the WMA mid-day and saw lots of quail (great since our quail numbers have been so low over recent years) & potential turkey habitat for next spring. Friday evening was clear, but still with less than average flight numbers. I killed 3. Our usual spots are near the river and birds typically fly to and from mornings & evenings. We saw lots of birds in general on high lines, etc during the day. I think the recent rains left things so wet that birds didn't necessarily need to go to water to drink - they could drink about anywhere instead of needing to go to the river. Regardless of harvest success, good times were had!
I scouted the Navy Base today, the part where we have to shoot a doe first to "earn-a-buck". I usually focus on getting that doe out of the way, as it can be painful watching a shooter wander by without a doe in the books. I did find a lone chestnut oak raining acorns with deer poop underneath it (I call them "magic" oaks). I hope to get out Saturday, it's going to be a hot one. -fsh
Well... The rage practice tip hit dead nuts as my field tips. Excited to let one go on a deer! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
