Congrats on the doe fsh! October 1 is coming quick!! Still have some work to do but looking forward to the season opening up.
I watched a 125ish 8 ptr approach within 40 yds this afternoon before he caught my scent on a wind shift; not a herd bull anyway... -fsh
Very foggy and wet here for the first sit of the year. Not going to see them til they are right on top of me this morning.
Congrats on the doe!! Sorry I haven't made it on for an intro yet. I live on and hunt 40 acres in Peoria Co. IL. Just last Saturday I was able to lease another 50 that buts up to me. Between the neighbor and I we now control close to 1000 acres that we try to keep a 140" minimum on. Hope to be able to put a doe down early then focus on bucks. I'm usually off for the 1st two weeks of November and looks like this year will be the same (if not more). My 40 acres has about 3 acres of food plots split up between primarily clover and soy beans. The 50 that I just leased has about 10 acres of CRP that I didn't even know was there. I now know where the main bedding area is lol, I've never seen anything like it. Unfortunately I'm way behind schedule on getting things ready. Just bought new stands today for the lease and hope to get 3 up next week, getting down to crunch time Going to see if I remember how to post pics in a bit and show a few of the boys I will be chasing. I have never gotten many velvet pics but got a darn nice one that posed for me a while back. Most will be from last year that I hope are still around. Good luck to all and be safe. Can't wait to climb in a tree and watch the first sunrise of the season.
Made it out for a few hours before our pee wee football game this morning. As usual, when looking for a doe early, I set down in the middle of 1-1/2 yr old buck paradise. But, it was good to see a couple. Going back out tomorrow am. Thinking i will sit along the creek bottom if the wind holds.
Has anyone been in the tree lately? Going to be getting out Thursday and then also the whole weekend! There's a little cooler weather rolling in so at least it wont be in the high 70's!
Ha, high 70s would be nice here. But our temps are dropping and I hope to be in the woods at least 2 out of the next 3 days. -fsh
Season opened for me this last weekend - Unfortunately I wasn't able to get out. I'll be out Friday and Sunday this weekend.
I hunted Tues afternoon and this afternoon, sitting in oak flats that were raining acorns. Too many oaks are now dropping, saw only one doe... -fsh
Just had an interesting encounter... Pulling out from my buddies place who's land joins ours and the bear we have had on cam is 40yds from us. My buddie grabbed a gun cause he has a tag but the bear sprinted away. Unnerving that he was on the path to my stand. Think I'll need to bring a pistol tomorrow when I hit the stand.
