Headed out this weekend to video a friend's bear hunt(s). Should serve as a good warm-up for the the deer opener the following weekend.
The good news: I got drawn to hunt a 1K acre nature preserve. All winners were awarded a 2 week block of time and there will be no more than 4 winners hunting at a time. It's also an earn-a-buck situation (no big deal). The "could be better" news: I was drawn 4th from last, so my assigned hunt period is from Jan. 7-20th. Lol! Not that I'm complaining.. It'll be a nice contingency plan, should my usual spots not pan out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm still hoping to be tagged out before half time. Lol! But it's definitely nice to know that I have this in my back pocket I talked to a guy who was drawn last time this area was hunted (Dec., 2012). He took a doe on day one, then a 135" 10 pointer five days into it. Said he saw six larger bucks, but took the first shooter that came into range. Sounds promising! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah, we are only able to hunt the weekends, had a couple pics between 10-1130am, and wanted to minimize foot traffic. It is a little tougher to stay interested day #2 as the cameraman...
I haven't got out yet, instead I've been working on my plots, and I seeded 5 food plots today. I'm hoping to get out for my first hunt tomorrow afternoon. Pics on my cams are nothing to get excited about either... -fsh
12 shots fired tonight... All in a 3 inch circle. I'll back out to 30 to make sure all is well there tomorrow. Saturday can't come soon enough. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I posted our first points on the score card. I shot a doe on earn-a-buck property this afternoon, nice to get that ticket punched! -fsh
