Hey everyone, I just put out a Moultrie MP8 two weeks ago. The first SD card I put in was a brand new 16GB. When I checked it last week, it had 3 pictures. All of them were of me. I put in an 8GB SD card, and it took 280+ photos. I'm going back today to check my camera (it has the 16GB SD card in it.) What would cause one SD card to work and one not? Also, I've read through the users manual, and for the camera I have, I have to turn it off, take out the SD Card, put the new one in, and turn it back on.
Most cameras say you should turn them off when removing or putting in a SD card. Like MOBU said I would also try formatting the card.
I never turn my cameras off, I just pop out the card and pop in a blank one. The only problems I've ever had with cards is in my desktop, once in a while when I insert one to look through it'll get some dust on one or more of the contact pads on the back of the card and not make good contact.
Are they the same brand card? Come cheap cards will be defective so I buy only name brands. Also, always format the cards instead of just deleting photos. Deleting will leave behind traces of files and eventually fill the card.
if one card is saving pictures and one isn't then this proves your camera is ok. try your 16GB in a different camera and see if it still isn't saving pictures. if it is working fine in a different camera it either needs formatted or isn't compatible with your current camera. check that the lock slide on the side of the card is in the correct position. make sure you format the card. this will make it compatible for your camera. I also turn my camera off every time I change the card. all my camera instructions say to turn it off while making the change. sometimes it is less of a headache just to get a new card just encase it malfunctions again in the future.
Probably needs to be formatted but when u do change the file system for it from ntfs to fat 32....! Had this happen to me once with a brand new card and didn't work... some cameras will not support the ntfs formats.
I'm with the others on re-formatting the card, even a new one. Read somewhere that different computers and tablets can put data on the card which can cause issues with the camera writing to it. Also, we had problems when using cards that had been in a different brand camera too so now after taking pics off the cards we always quick reformat right on the computer to clean them off.
Some trail cameras have that function in the settings, reformat card. There have been times where I have done it and it did not erase existing pictures though. So now I do it on my laptop, just right mouse click on the card in Windows Explorer and it gives you the option to reformat there. Always works and you find out then if you have a bad card.
Have you used that same card in a different camera? A trail camera or any other camera? Sometimes that will mess one up. Like the others said, format it and try it again.
