Hey all, I just found out that the game commission will be burning about 270 acres on some public land near me. I don't know when exactly, the website says the burn is planned for 2017.

I am attaching a topo of the proposed burn site,

my question is, if this were your land how would you go about scouting/hunting this site, what should I keep an eye out for? How will the wildlife react to this?

I know burns are good for hunting, and I have done some research on it, but I want to take advantage of this opportunity so any advice, tips or links you guys have would be much appreciated.

    Thank you!

Trails are a lot easier to see after a burn and deer will be in there thick as thieves when it greens up.

I would walk it as soon as you can after the burn, I have found many sheds and dead heads after the running flames are gone. Deer are nosey and they will be on the fire ground by the morning after the fire.

Northern Michigan had a lot of fires in a lot of my favorite areas...I loved being there when it started turning green! Deer love nibbling through those areas. Watching from far off was helpful & gave good indication of where to be. Sorry I don't have anything more specific for your map...Knowing where the bedrooms are will help.
