I don't know if anyone else on here has this camera yet but I would recommend considering it for your next camera purchase. It's very similar to the other ScoutGuards as far as size and setup. This is the one that will text and/or e-mail you pictures when they are taken. I've had this camera up for 1 week now and it is a blast to all of a sudden get a text with pictures of deer out in my food plot. I opted for this camera because, even though I have to pay for another line on my cell phone bill, it will save me that much in gas by not having to drive an hour one way just to check my camera. I also won't have to bother driving out there to hunt until I start seeing more deer activity.
Well the ones that the camera e-mails and texts are pretty low resolution. They are good enough to tell if you have a doe or buck or a nice big buck or what it is but when you enlarge them they get really pixelated. But it does store every picture on an SD card like a normal camera so you can review them more thoroughly later. I suspect they will come out with an update that will increase resolution. At least I hope they will.
Every where you look they are right at $330. I think BeeBusy has a package deal with the security box and python cable. I would get all of that with it. The security box is awesome. Camera--$330 Security Box--about $35 Python Cable--about $20 Then you have to pay for another phone line on your cell phone plan. I don't think the camera supports Verizon though because I don't think their phones use SIM cards. Bestgamecamera.com has a package deal for the camera, box, and an SD card for $355 with free shipping. That's a pretty good deal.
No problem about the questions, I'm happy to answer anything I can. My cell phone plan has 3 iPhones on it so we pay for an unlimited text messaging plan. So to answer your question, no I don't, but other cell phone plan setups may charge you per text. It's exactly like having another phone though so you can setup your plan accordingly.
Thanks I have a couple spots that I get about 700 -800 pics a week and it could get spendy then. I doubt I would buy one I love checking cameras too much
I have been very unhappy with the Scoutguard 580M. I had been seeing very few pictures from this camera in an area that I knew had a high activity rate of deer. At first I assumed the cell device was just not sending all the pictures, however, when I went to check the camera I found very few pics on the SD card as well. I decided to test the Scouthuard against my favorite trail camera. I mounted the Scoutguard 580M directly below my favorite camera on a hot site. I left both camers set at high sensitivity rate and left the cameras in place for 3 days. During the three days I received 5 or 6 photo's from the Scoutguard 580M via it's cellular service. After three days I went back to check on the camera and found over 1000 pictures on my favorite camera and 27 pictures on the Scoutguard 580M. These cameras were mounted on the same tree, with the Scoutguard 6 inches below the other camera. Had I relied soley on the Scoutguard I would have moved the camera assuming it was a bad spot, when in fact deer had been actively captured on my other camera each day, several times a day. The Scoutguard just plain missed them...
That is a pretty cool feature scoutguard 580 has. I have never used one so i can not say the quality but it is a neat feature. We sell the box for $25 and cables for $16. I am checking to see if we have the camera in stock and just not on our website.
During the Xmas sales season, I see that this camera can be bought at $269 on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/280779980763?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
They have increased the image size to 800x600 (Email) and further improved the transmitted image quality:
