I think they will lose, the terms Mom & Dad are not fair and are insulting. I would like to see them removed from all government buildings, the words take us back to a time when we were very cruel to others. We need to ban Father's & Mother's Days immediately so others are not offended.

If the citizens of Alabama took a popular vote (every 18 year old and over, legal citizens by today's standards) and the result was no interracial marriages then yes. That is how our country was founded. A interracial couple doesn't have to live in Alabama just like a gay couple does t have to live in ND. If 5% of the state is gay, why do they think they have the right to change the states laws for the other 95%? There are plenty of states that already allowed it

    Exactly my point.

So where do you draw the line? What is okay, what's not okay and who gets to decide that?

well the answer to that is so obvious I didn't think I had to say it...but the answer is as long as the action does not affect another non consenting individual and/or their property

No. Nowhere does it say that are redefining the Christian's Gods definition of marriage.

You're right to what? An opinion? You can still have your opinion without denying them the ability to marry.

You can still have that belief.

Look...I get states rights but there comes a point where human rights supersede state rights.

How is SCOTUS not changing the terms of marriage? Marriage comes from God, God alone invented marriage and therefor any changes to marriages are changes to his marriage.

My right to vote my opinion that gay marriage should not be allowed. Your saying that would be denying them yet to not vote would be giving up my right

Humans have the right to live in a state that supports their beliefs, and if no state does they have the right to leave our country. Since when does a democracy conform to the minority?

I'm not the first person to say this, but this will lead to the legalization of polygamy...mark my words. There is now no legal basis to
I think most of us agree...government should have no role in the rite of marriage. Only the recognition of legal contracts (civil unions) between two or more willing adult participants.

    Yay! More lawyers!

The SCOTUS just said that states have to recognize gay marriages. That is it.

well...Americans do. And this idea that someone can simply just move is quite laughable.

    even more laughable

Well for one, we do not live in a democracy, I don't know who told you that lie. And secondly, the majority saying "we can do this, but you can't" is utterly wrong and any decent human being should see that as wrong.

This belief system is absolutely disgusting to me.

So be it. Why would I care?

What is the difference between a civil union and a marriage? In the sense of the law?

I can see where you think this since we are debating but I wouldn't call it that. When I say "cry" I mean cry out to government to change things. The conservatives will be unhappy but not cry out and demand changes like the gay community has done. That's the difference I see. All in all I just see it as another step down a dark path that our country is going.

Well like it or not, there's religious marriage and government recognized marriage. They are 2 separate things. You do have the option of not participating in the government recognized definition of marriage, but you also then forfeit any benefit associated with that like filing your taxes jointly with your wife.

You can choose to go through the religious ceremony within your church and have it recognized it as a marriage through your church only. Then you can be rest assured that any government ruling will not affect your churches definition of marriage.

The gay community just "cried" about being about to do the things that everyone else could do.

You think if conservatives couldn't do something that liberals could do but wanted to do that they wouldn't be crying and trying to change things?

I believe conservative politicians will but the goes for all politicians. Maybe I'm wrong about conservatives in general but for myself, if I choose to be different from society I will accept the consequences and know that things will be different for me.

I wouldn't force others to change because I chose to be different.

No one forced any individual to change in this case

This literally affects no one that chooses to not be affected by it
