I have and will continue to talk down on the religious view because it has no valid debate in this discussion. Until it can be proven, then I will discount it, and nothing will change my mind on that. We need to put an end to making laws due to religious stand points. You (or anyone) might not agree with gay rights, and might think it can send a person to hell, but can not give a good reason against it. The points against it are extremely weak, and are just reaching for something. So they make up stats (like 30% of LA schools are LGBT), they say its unnatural (but animals do it all the time without gay rights laws or media promoting it), they bring up incest or interspecies relationships (both have nothing to do with gay rights), they bring up divorce (straight people divorce at an alarming rate), and bring up raising children, but we can see by the mass shootings, gang violence, terrorism, and drug use and the list goes on, that very often straight people don't make great parents either. And when the same argument comes up over and over, that god says its bad, its going to get bashed. I don't judge them at them, some of the people on here that I have debated against I love, and have nothing but respect for. And will never effect how I look at the as a person or how I care about them through good and bad times. But, I strongly disagree with their argument, and wont just say its ok because I like them.

Also, most of them will out hunt me in a few months and get the last laugh!!

I can certainly understand why Christians have strong beliefs. I just don't understand this bit about spending eternity in torment if I don't believe what they believe. In my beliefs, we are all going to experience the afterlife the same way. And what we experience will depend on the use we have made of this physical life we have been given. It won't matter what we believed or didn't believe. It's possible that someone might even return to this life, but not in the same body. Some, guilty of some egregious evil, may be dragged away by demons. I'm not real clear about that, but if you have seen the movie Ghost, that's sort of the idea.

I say the focus should shift from gay marriage to Soldiers and Veterans rights. The Soldiers, Sailors, Airman, Marines, and Coast Guard has their benefits and rights trampled or taken away everyday. These are the folks that get wounded or die to protect people who whine about rights and they may even not agree with their lifestyle but, they will die for them when asked! I am a Christian and a Veteran who spent 22 years defending things I didn't like or support and I put my head down and moved on without uttering a word. As a Christian I've never said anyone has to live like Jesus Christ, we do have the freewill thing that is mentioned in the Bible. I personally have gay relatives, I don't agree with their lifestyle but, I love them like all the other family members, I wish them well. The little picture of Willy Wonka and the ISIS comment is pretty funny but, the big difference is Christians aren't killing women, children, beheading, or burning people, if you don't want to believe in God then don't. I lived half of my 22 years in other country's some (third world) and have witnessed some cruel things that I never hope to see again, if you think life here in the good Ol' USA is rough and unfair, well I've got some buddies who can get some parachutes for ya and we can drop you over any country you want. I would say you would be begging for the good Ol' USA to come and get you back within 24 hours. Forget about bow hunting or any other kinds of hunting, 99.9% of these country's don't allow guns and bows, unless you're a millionaire. I think we have it pretty good here and think we should think about things that can really hurt us like: crooked politicians, ISIS, Taliban, home grown terrorism, and maybe the death rates of inner cities. I really don't care about gay marriage, have at it! We have really lost focus in this country, we have down sized our military to the point that we may not be able to defend ourselves, our debt has gotten to the point where we may never recover (giving handouts to half the population), illegals killing, raping, and robbing citizens and not being punished or deported. There are more important things that need to be discussed and taken care of! GOD BLESS THE USA and if you don't like it here leave!!! Rangers Lead The Way!

You say that religion and I am assuming any form of religion has no valid debate in this discussion. As much as your lack of religion or faith has inspired your opinions and thoughts, the opposite is true of people of the Christian faith. We view the world through the prism of our belief system the same as you view the world through your belief system. I think we can agree on one thing and that is we disagree on this topic. You have your reasons and I have mine and neither one of us is going to change each others opinions. I believe I am right and you believe you are right, you have the right to your opinions and beliefs as I do to mine. Doesn't make you right, doesn't make me right. If you believe there is no God or god that is your choice and your personal convictions are perfectly fine with me. You believe gay marriage is a good thing and I don't. I choose my convictions based upon my belief system, it is how I think, act, treat other people and it has certainly shaped how I feel about the gay marriage issue. I cannot and will not seperate the issues from my sincere personal beliefs.

Religion should have nothing to do with the freedoms of other people. You can still not agree with gay marriage and believe that it is a sin and still believe in freedoms of you fellow man. It's really that simple.

How is it right or fair to force your beliefs on others who disagree through law? To make laws that take rights away from people because your religion does not like it, even though others disagree with it, and even though there is no proof there even is a god, or that those are truly gods words after all?

We are not forcing you or anyone into anything, this is what you are not getting. Christian OPINION is it's a sin, again OPINION!!! You don't believe in God, so be it, I can't and won't force you to believe in Him (FREEWILL), I believe you will pay for it someday, but, it's my OPINION. You still can't prove there isn't a God. If science was so good at proving life came from nothing, why can't they keep us alive forever. The law changed so we can't force nothing, even if we wanted to, how come you aren't getting that!

My point is you vote for something based on religious beliefs, and should your side of the voting win, then its forced on the rest of us. Not religion, but things like a same sex couple not being able to marry, for the sole reason that religious people voted against them. So, that's forcing them to suffer due to your beliefs. Not fact, but belief. How is that fair? If its found that gay marriage causes cancer to anyone within a mile radius of them, then you have good reason to vote against it. If its found gay marriage will cost us another 10% in taxes, you have good reason to vote against it. But to vote against something that harms no one makes no sense. How is that fair?

And as I said before, if some how it could be proven that god is real and will destroy the world if gays marry, then it would make sense to vote against it, to protect the world. But at this time, that has not been proven.

First of all, NONE OF US GOT TO VOTE on this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was a decision handed down by 5 men that were never elected to their office. There were only 9 votes cast, so 5 people voted in favor of changing the rules, and 4 voted against it. How would you like it if that was the type of representation you were afforded on all matters of Law? I for one, would not be happy about that. To me, that is legislation without proper representation. Basically the whole reason the colonies rebelled against England in the Revolutionary War.

Secondly, if you have a belief system in place, and something is being pushed that goes against your beliefs, how do you think you would react. Don't go all high and mighty and act like you would be fine with it. You've already said you didn't think "Cousins" should be allowed to breed, so you've already proven you have some type of belief system that sets apart what you believe to be acceptable vs. not acceptable behavior.

There's no proof that there's life on other planets, but I think most of us believe there's life out there. We can't prove it, we can't prove there isn't either. Religion is about faith, having faith in god, having faith that there is something after life on this planet.

Well that is a bit disingenuous. I believe most states have had votes on gay marriage, no?

There job is to interpret the Constitution. Their interpretation of the law is that states not allowing gay marriage was a violation of the 14th Amendment.

So are you saying you don't believe in the Constitution of the United States of America? From Wiki-

The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS[SUP][1][/SUP]) is the highest federal court of the United States. Established pursuant to Article III of the United States Constitution in 1789, it has ultimate (and largely discretionary) appellate jurisdiction over all federal courts and over state court cases involving issues of federal law, plus original jurisdiction over a small range of cases. In the legal system of the United States, the Supreme Court is the final interpreter of federal constitutional law, although it may only act within the context of a case in which it has jurisdiction.

I would also like to add that the decision was handed down by 5 Male and Female justices with 4 Men voting against it. This court is the ultimate decision maker and yes the judges are appointed by the President but must be confirmed by the Senate who are the people we elect. So in reality the Judges are all confirmed by the people we vote into the Senate:) Yay for voters rights and the power of the vote!

Last but not least, how is it everyone gets their panties in a bunch over this issue? The institution of marriage in this country has become a joke with over 50% of marriages failing. Does it really matter who marries and who are we to judge, shouldn't that be the job of our creator? Who are we to do God's bidding and condemn the happiness people seek in his name? My wife and I have several couples we hang out with that are gay, a couple couples are even married. The eat off the same menu as us, drink the same cocktails as us, hug us, love us and are great friends. In other words they are all great and caring people, should they be afforded less than us or many of the idiots failing at marriage since it is such a privilege under God's beliefs?

I don't mean YOU voted for it, but the 4 that voted against it could very well have (I wasnt there) used religion in their voting. So someone voted!. And if we were all given the chance to vote (not how this works), mot who would vote against it would only vote against it for that reason. And that's what I am saying is wrong. Read this whole thread, it always goes back to religion because that's the only thing anyone can find against same sex marriage, and that is not a factor when it comes to human rights. And again (hopefully for the last time) the reason cousins shouldn't be able to have kids is because theres a high risk of harming another life (the kid), and that is proven fact, not listed in a book somewhere that may or may not be true. Its proven. True. Fact.

And yes, I have no proof but think there probably is life out there. But I wouldn't vote on some law based on that thought, I would wait until there was proof.

Well your pretty late to the party here. I already have my reasoning for believing judicial review is unconstitutional about 10 pages ago. But, buy all means quote wiki as your source for understanding the framework of the constitution.

You speak of freedom, I know that you don't think that we actually live in a "free" society. Freedom is defined by societal norms within the social group or structure. What is acceptable by that society, the society is free to do, what is unacceptable in that society they cannot without fear of reprisal by that society. Society for hundreds of years has deemed this as unacceptable and it is just in recent history, with the liberal media pushing the LGBT agenda, has this activity became, at least in some part, socially acceptable. This qualified as abnormal behavior within our society and most other societies in the world until, historically speaking, a short time ago. Now I recognize that you may think that this is a good thing and I have close family that is LGBT but I disagree that it allows an acceptable freedom. I think marriage has been defined in this country and others for centuries as between a man and a woman. I think that the nuclear family unit will be damaged by this ruling. I think that this LGBT agenda will not stop with the "freedom" they have now but be emboldened to petition to remove freedoms from groups which may oppose their lifestyle. Those are my opinions just like you have your opinions, we simply do not agree. Oh' and for the record LGBT family members are treated with respect, loved and not ostracized in any way even though we disagree.

I get what you say about personal freedoms and there may be a lot that we agree about on that subject but because of the above reasons and others concerning my personal convictions I just cannot condone LGBT marriage.
