I've had this release for about five years now and on my last hunt I noticed the problem while shooting at a squirrel ( thank god it wasn't a deer) . But I'm not sure if the spring is worn or what but when I release my release isn't releasing the string loop? I'll add that I've probably shot thousands of times with this release and love it. But I think it's finally time for a replacement. Has anyone else had a problem like this or worse had equipment failure while drawn back on a deer?
I would check to make sure their is no debris in the working mechanisms. The little bitty goose is a very simple design and does not require the spring to operate, though it does help. I have had mine for 5+ years without failure and it goes through hell each season. Scott makes the best hunting releases IMHO. Would your trigger go slack when pulled? Or was it stuck in place? Usually I get a pretty good click when pulling the trigger but it seems now it just kinda goes limb when I release. The release opens a tad but I think from the angle I have my release when I pull the trigger the string loop stays caught in the caliper part of the release. I have to get it a little wiggle in order to fire. Scared the hell out of me when I happened because I pull the trigger and nothing happens, the start to let off and bam arrow flys into the ground and I punch myself right in the nose.
Backcountry's advice is good I'd go with that first. If debris is not the issue, get ahold of Scott and tell them whats going on. A guy slammed my silverhorn in a truck door and wreched it. I got ahold of Scott told them what happend and they sent me a new release mechanism free of charge, didn't even charge shipping, didn't ask for the old one back. I may be new, but I am a life long Scott consumer
Always worried about that. I just buy a new one every couple of years or so and keep the old one for back up. Glad it wasn't on a prize buck.
