I would say at least 160 all day long. The picture does him no justice just going off of facial features and comparing them to the size of the rack.
I'll have to remeasure, but pretty sure I was pretty close aside from the H4 measurement which i didn't do on his right side. Didn't realize between G3 and tip was the final so only did between the G's. Curious as to what you see him as. Here's the harvest photo
Ha, it's easy for me to say it now since you gave the score but I would have guessed that deer in the mid to upper 140's just because he has good tine length, that G4 on the left, has good mass and incredible brow tines. Without those things he has the frame of more like a 130" deer. Everyone guestimates deer differently, I'm an impression estimator. I look at a deer and all the deer I've seen scored over the years stick in my head as a comparison to use against the one I'm looking at. Hardly ever do I actually take a piece of paper and write down estimates on what I'm seeing like a mock score sheet. I'm generally within 4-6" but depends on how many angles I have to look at, how much junk or how many oddities there are. Once in a while I get fooled one way or another and miss it by a wider margin. Big deer are a little harder because we just don't get to see all that many to use as a base for comparison. Sometimes deer with less width can give a false impression because we tend to not account for the mass, tine lengths, etc... kind of like yours. I have a main frame 10 on the wall beside a really nice wide 14 point wit ha big 7" drop tine and that narrow buck scores 168 and change and the wide one scores basically right at 168" gross. The difference is the narrow buck has better mass clear through, longer main beams and a bunch of scorable junk on his bases. Stuff like that is what keeps it interesting to me.
I measured it twice, went back to the 2011 contest thread. Here is my score breakdown wihout H4 on right side. I was wrong with it mid 140's without H4, that was adjusted guess with http://forums.bowhunting.com/showth...re-Card-(Updated-1-16-12)?p=380613#post380613 Inside Spread 12 6/8 Greatest Spread 15 1/8 Tip to Tip 1 1/8 Left Main Beam 20 2/8 G1 8 1/8 G2 7 6/8 G3 9 4/8 G4 6 1/8 H1 5 5/8 H2 4 5/8 H3 4 1/8 H4 3 3/8 Right Main Beam 20 2/8 G1 7/2/8 G2 8 6/8 G3 8 4/8 H1 5 4/8 H2 4 3/8 H3 4 7/8 Gross 141 6/8 Net 128 2/8
And sorry to OP, not trying to highjack your thread. Just curious because it seems I have been well off from other peoples scores on these type threads this year. I usually get fairly close with mounts and known scores when put up. Just trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong or if it really is all about angles and such
I know everybody has a difference of opinion in their "perfect" buck but man that is mine. I love the mass and frame look of that buck. Good luck getting after him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The harvest photo does that deer MUCH more justice CLS! That's a neat buck. Now you only added the inside spread to your measurement right? I didn't check. Those brows are freaking awesome Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
On a side note, I wish they'd do away with the inside spread. It's air not antler, in it's place maybe a measurement for circumfrence center of each tine. At least that would be an antler based measurement.
I just got 145 and change guessing that last mass measurement. That's a sweet looking deer. I killed one very similar (tight, long times, 11" spread) but wasn't nearly as big. Very deceiving score wise Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
