I bought a Rossi Rifle with the interchangeable barrels. I got the .270, .17, and 50 cal muzzleloader barrels. I'm looking for suggestions for a good scope. My 7mm has a Simmons Aetec, I've had pretty good luck with it, but I'm curious as to what everyone else uses. Most if not all my shots are within 200 yards, I'd like a good clear quality glass. I was looking at the Nikon Monarch series, hefty price tag, but nice.

My Browning A-bolt 30.06 has a Simmons Aetec on it I am very happy with. But then again I didn't want to spend a ton of cash on something I only use 9 days a year. Good scope for the $

Have been hearing really good things about the new Redfield scopes. My dad's good friend just bought one and loves it. We have the old lo-pro widefield Redfields on our rifles and love them. Think this is whats going to go on my next rifle

Vortex Viper is a good scope for the price.

I put a Leupold VX-R on my 30-06 this year and it is darn near perfect.

That is just too much coin for a scope, IMO .... I have looked thru the $150-$200 scopes and I can't tell the difference between the ones 2-7 times more epensive ... practically speaking anyway ,...

Nikon buckmaster, Leupold rifleman, Redfield revolution....if you want to stay down at the 200$ range -these have lifetime warranties and the quality and light transmition are way above the simmons and bushnells at these prices. The rifleman and buckmaster are virtually the same in price and function and the revolutions runs about 30-50$ cheaper...some variances in crosshair type but all good scopes...other wise the nikon prostaff has seemed to improve and runs about the same as the redfield price and also a lifetime warranty. These are what I would buy depending on availability and current sale price as the determining factor as to which I would pick though the older prostaffs wouldn't have been in the running before last year as the quality hadn't been there and I actually haven't looked at them yet but have heard good things.

I have always liked Nikon optics. I have a Nikon Buckmaster on both the .270 and 30.06. Great scopes.

I went and looked through several this morning. I've never considered Redfield until this thread; the guy at the gun shop talked very highly of them. I'm pretty sure I'm ordering the 3-9x50 Redfield for the .270 and the muzzleloader, found them on Ebay new for $176. I looked at a BSA catseye, that honestly looked awesome. I talked to a buddy who had a BSA once (could have been the bottom of the barrel model) and he said at last light it was kind of fuzzy. Anybody got any experience with BSA? I'm thinking I might give it a try for the .17, since recoil isn't a issue.

Last year I put a fixed BSA on a 22 for plinking. I don't like it. I'm going to buy a new scope for my 30-06 and move the existing Redfield to the 22 and throw the damn BSA away. LOL Well at least into a drawer. I don't know why I bother.... because I don't shoot either much.... but a boy has to play sometimes.

Thank you David, their prices seem almost to "good". I believe I've settled on Redfield at least for the .270. I might try the Omega from Nikon for the Muzzleloader. .17 is still up in the air.

Redfields are made by Leupold and for that .17 check out the nikon coyote spec. or a prostaff for varmints and one other brand I forgot esp for fixed power scopes is Weaver...maybe check into that for the muzzle loader - I have a 1.5 pwr for my encore 50 and I'll shoot it out to 200yds no problem, and I've never needed to reload after the shot and after sighting it in 3.5 yrs ago -have never had to readjust the scope.

Absolutely on the Nikon for the Omega. That's what I have on mine and it's as close as you can get to the 3-9 20 year old Leupold I have on my other 30-06. I really like it and it's reasonably priced. I just went with the basic 3-9 and the basic reticle. I saw no need for the BDC and added cost for my distances.
