so if the people in north want to know why the South shuts down when it snows down here, just look at Atlanta today Complete and utter disaster. Kids having to spend the night at schools. People sleeping in their cars on the interstate. Too many wrecks to count. Traffic at 100% standstill. Reports of it taking 16 hours for some people to get 10 miles. People were abandoning their cars on the interstate and walking home.
I know it may be cruel to laugh at you folks. I realize you don't have the plows and all that we have here. But we don't plow for 2 inches either. It starts to get difficult at six inches. If we get up to 8-10, those of us with a 4WD start feeling lucky. My wife wears tights under her skirt when it gets to single digits. She hates that.
Delays Monday and Tuesday here. One degree colder this morning and schools open on time. Again.... I don't get the logic lol.
It doesn't bother me at all being a southerner being laughed at because of how the roads depts don't know how to handle snowy/cold weather. I get a kick out of watching the local news. To them 1" or 2" of snow spells a natural catastrophe. They send news reporters into several different counties with reports similar to some disaster. We ended up with a total of 5" of snow here on the hill, talked to a friend in the next county to the east who only got an inch..........Here's a pic sent by my son in Knoxville. Apparently they don't have snow plows over there. He couldn't make it to work today but fortunately he has one of those jobs he can work from home if necessary. We live in a rural area, most of the property is wooded and our driveway is 1/4 mile and very steep. Can't see any houses from here, so I can pee off the front porch. Fortunately a farmer neighbor always scrapes our driveway with his tractor. So I gotta go to town later and ain't worried about it. 5" of snow is a rare occurrence here.
In defense of the Southerners, it doesn't seem like it's the snow that's crippling rather the ice. Looks like you get a layer of ice on everything before you get the snow. That'll cripple us too, sure we can salt the roads but that still takes time plus everything else is still coated with ice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
People that can't drive is what screws everything up. Half of them shouldn't be driving to begin, let alone in snow and ice Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Our college actually canceled classes today because of the snow and freezing rain Sent using Tapatalk!
