My kids are in school today but a few miles north many schools are closed. It's 4 degrees out with a windchill of -3. It's not that cold. Crazy.

Our high school has had 15+ delays and 7 cancellations already this year. I just graduated last year and can count on both hands the number of times we were cancelled over the 2 years of middle school and 4 years of high school.

Some districts are wussy, and some are overly stubborn. Some just wait to see what those around are doing.

Schools in Ely don't close often due to cold temps (unless the governor shuts the whole state down:) ). I think they figure it's safer for the kids to be at school. If it's cancelled, the kids will all be ice fishing or snowmobiling. They do cancel sometimes if we get big snow, like 30" or something.

Here in Central, IL we have been out four days, including yesterday. 3 of the 4 have been for cold, the other was for snow and cold. Back in my day we would have been in school at least 3 if not four of those days

I knew something didn't add up with today's closing. This statement was just posted on our district page:

High school kids are going to the beach for spring break, like college kids do? Unsupervised?

in the South they do, since for many it is only a few hours drive, and almost everyone either owns a beach condo, or knows someone that does

My wife teaches at a college so the only time we can go to Mexico is during spring break. There are many many many unsupervised high school kids there.

If this weather keeps up I can see my daughter having a few weeks added to the end if the school year. They have canceled school a lot this year for snow and low temps along with numerous 2hr delays. No school at all last week.

Our local schools were closed today as well. Not sure why, since they had the same temperatures last week.

Our school has been scared ever since a votech bus full of kids flipped on it's side during a snowstorm. Now they're quick to call of school to avoid accidents, lawsuits, etc.

I'd say in general people's reactions to cold weather is ridiculous.

There are a handful of the guys on my team that drive me up a wall about this stuff. Two of them have complained that I make them come to work when it's cold out. Neither have kids and have fairly short commutes to the office. It's end of month this week and they are on monthly quotas, in our business last week of the month is sacred and everyone knows that. Both of these guys don't have a great track record of producing and are already on thin ice performance wise and I always let my guys know clearly (whether it's good/bad) where they stand so they are clear. These guys know they are on thin ice already and are complaining about coming to work when it's cold.

Then the one texts me this morning to tell me that he can't come in because his car won't start. After I get to the office, I find out today that he told a co-worker yesterday he wasn't coming in today and that I'm an ******* because I expect them to work in below zero temperatures. Keep in mind we work inside and his job is to call people and push a mouse around all day.

I'm fairly certain this d-bag will be able to stay home all he wants pretty soon whether it's warm or cold. This guy has a chance to make a disgusting amount of money this year in this position and change his life, and he'd rather stay at home and play with himself all day than come to work and make a real career opportunity for himself.

End of rant.......people need to suck it up and deal with it. I don't like it anymore than anyone else but I'm not going to let it get in my way.

If it gets below 20 degrees F or an inch of snow the schools will close here. However they still continue to have their basketball games anyhow, doesn't matter if the buses have to travel 60 miles to and 60 miles from the opposing team's location.

Looks like someone has their priorites bass-ackwards.

Woooooooooooo!!! Kick his *** Sea Bass! :tu:

People have become huge vages. It comforts me knowing that if the shtf, most people won't last long. Get through the first few months and the world will have cleansed itself of most of the parasites.
