I was wondering if anyone has any experience with one. Seems interesting, but Im a typical redneck and can fall for gimmicks too. Like they say, most fishing lures are meant to catch fisherman, not fish. Same can be said to this type of thing I guess. Sorry if this has been discussed recently, the search tool wont seem to work for me.
I use a weather tight Iris storage box. It doesn't have any electronic stuff but it's air tight. As soon as my clothes come out of the dryer or off the clothes line they go in the box and stay there till I get to the field. They're pretty heavy duty. I had a fire in the basement of my house and the box was in the basement as well. Anything that wasn't burned was absolutely covered in heavy black soot and smelled horrific of smoke, including the box. But the stuff inside the box was completely scentless just as I had left it. Here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/IRIS-Weathert...0D/dp/B005E4ID8S#immersive-view_1440370835158 Now with that said, I also had some clothes in an Iris lighter weight "airtight" container. It was like $11 at Walmart. That kept some smoke out but the clothes inside still smelled. I'm working on getting the smell out of those.
That looks like a good option also! My current bin doesn't seem to be the best. I am still curious if anyone has used this product in the past though.
If you pull the trigger let me know how it works out. I'm always looking for better ways to store my gear scent-free. Have you looked into the ozonator things at all? There seems to be some evidence that they work for clothing storage.
I have looked into that and considering it as well, especially paired with the bin you pointed me towards. I am not sold it does much in the tree, but several on here have spoke good on it for storage as you mentioned. I haven't checked the price on them lately to see if it got any better. If I remember right it was as much as the box I am questioning.
I looked a bit last night. I haven't researched it too in-depth yet but I certainly will. I found a unit that will work up to 50 sq. feet for approximately $40. http://www.bowhuntingoutlet.com/sce...minator.html?gclid=CIXf3LbawccCFUUUHwods6IGPQ
This might work better for a storage tote. http://www.lancasterarchery.com/whitetail-r-scentpurge-35-electronic-scent-eliminator.html
My landlord bought one a while back, I've had a chance to look it over close but it hasn't even been plugged in yet sitting in the clubhouse. Looks legit for what that's worth. Grant Woods promotes them so I trust they work knowing Grant, I don't think he'd endorse anything that was a gimmick based on what I know of the man.
I might get a portable closet to encapsulate one of the spare closets in my house (mine have sliding doors and aren't as sealed). Then I'll just run the ozone unit inside that portable closet and when I leave for the field I'll use the tote to transport my clothes/pack/harness etc.
Bill Wink does also, and I trust him for the most part. He seems pretty consistent with what he promotes and doubt he is in major need of sponsorship, so I trust his word. I guess one of my main questions is will just some heat really help that much? I don't know enough about the science behind scent.
Yeah I don't know, only trying them will tell but it has a carbon filter in it as well. The heated airflow is supposed to kill the bacteria and the filter is supposed to keep the air clean. I'll put a pair of my sweaty socks in the one at the clubhouse and see if it ruins it, lol.
haha good plan!!!! I cant get it for this year probably anyway, work has been slow. So I might try the bin/cheap ozone option. But if I can get some good reviews on this box I would get one for next year. Its big and looks decent (will be on front porch, so helps keep the nagging down if it looks good lol) and if it really work it would make dressing in the cold a bit easier since they will be warm!
I use one of these along with a scent proof bag. Wash all the clothes in whatever scent eliminator product you prefer and then immediately into the bag. Night before I hunt I put the ozone thingy in there and let it run over night. I also do the same thing every day after I hunt. By morning I'm good to go. I have noticed that since I started doing this the number of times I've been busted has decreased substantially. For $35 I believe and feel confident. That's worth it to me.
Seriously!!! That does sound amazing! Awesome thank you sir! I think that is what I will be doing. Was hoping to get both from amazon, but they don't have the battery powered ozone one, just the one with a cord. And I don't want a cord breaking the seal of the bin. So need to decide if I should just order one from each place or what. Either way, I think its worth a shot. Thank you sir!
I did not know that thank you! So whats the best way to make this work? Leave the lid lose on it or is that still not enough oxygen?
I plan to make a clean area for my pre-hunt gear. I spoke to the owner of Whitetail'r yesterday on the phone about the intricacies of using his items. The owner was polite, helpful and was more than willing to take time out of his day to answer all of my questions. He told me that while running the unit, it needs some O2 to work properly, it doesn't need an abundance of it but the container should breath a little bit. I will start a thread chronicling my usage of this item, from the beginning to use in the field and my thoughts on how it works for me. I have no use for ozone machine in the woods, but do see use for myself with pre-hunt applications.
Awesome thank you! Yes I agree, I have no use for it in the woods. I am not able to clear a room for my hunting stuff, keep in on the porch in a bin normally. So am hoping the lose led will be enough. Just trying to make a change. I am not seeing the number of mature deer that my trailcams see, and Im guessing my current scent control is part of the issue. So trying to improve and figured I would start with something along these lines.
Was even thinking of smoking my clothes. I am not going to jump right into that. But I will play with it later in the year as well probably. A buddy of mine will be trying that this year as well.
