http://www.outdoorlife.com/robinson-outdoor-products-files-bankruptcy I saw this coming. They have been in financial trouble for a while. They have also started liquidating assets. they just sold one of their 3 highly managed whitetail farms.
That is sad to hear, although I never owned any of their gear. The camo clothing market is saturated, with new companies showing up almost monthly. Who heard of Plythal before last year? I hope they are able to meet their financial obligations and restructure at some level.
I'm not sure I want to divulge everything I know about the situation just yet...but skywalker and Justin are both spot on. I don't know Scott Shultz, although we've met, but I do know two members of the board of directors and someone who works in their warehouse Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I bought quite a bit of this stuff as I needed to completely re-gear for hunting again. I had goo success with their clothing. It seems well-made. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I became a fan of their stuff this past season. Quality seemed right on and at price points which I could meet.
I think more people are realizing scent elimination products are a crock. I also know the average hunter buys the best deal. Yes...there is a market for Sitka (just like cars...people still buy lambos), but the majority are gonna drive a honda civic and buy budget clothes. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Crock...no but some do see the things as magical powers which are like pushing an invisible button. There is scientific data which defends and proves some of the aspects claimed by companies are 100% factual. Silver, carbon, zeolite and such are just some of the things where claims are true. However, I've long learned one of the most important aspects of clothing is moisture wicking abilities above all else...if you sweat you smell...minimize one you minimize the other.
Coming from a medical/scientific background, i find it next to impossible to believe any "product" will actually give us any type of real advantage over a buck's nose. They have better noses than bloodhounds, who can smell drugs submerged in gasoline and track people who were riding in cars. Your (figuratively) telling me some clothes i wash in my washer are going to reduce my scent? LOL No. Not happening. Once we knock that out of the equation it all comes down to look, price and comparability. And Scentlock doesn't offer much more than any competitor. Now...that being said...im not a scientist and far from a great hunter so my opinion is soley my own. (And apparently the people who stopped buying Scentlock feel the same way i do)
Many of the folks which stopped utilized Scentlok quite a few years back was due to the misunderstanding of a suit pending with them which was misdiscussed by many. Reduce scent undoubtedly yes, enough to make a vast difference against one of the sharpest noses in the woods...debatable at best. I think my scent regime I do makes a much bigger difference than my clothing does personally. Clothing alone won't minimize scent a measurable amount in my opinion by itself. Scentblocker I never cared for the fit personally...and when I switched a few years back got a good deal on scentlok and have kinda just stuck with em. I've researched First Lite and Sitka and I hope to some day be able to justify the expense to test them as handling them and discussing them with others they seem to be of the highest quality garments out there (all scent things aside). However, can't currently.
i have a couple of various base layers from them... primarily as they were on clearance. I have not seen much of a difference between any scent blocking / locking closing vs trad layered comfortable hunting clothing over the years.
Agree...most of the stuff is the same...crazy difference though in just feeling it when you get to the Sitka or First Lite ranks....or the minus 33 merino underlayers. I sadly don't use any of them though as I just can't swallow the cost.
Please stop comparing a trained tracking dog's ability to a deer's ability to detect danger. The animals will react completely different to a millionth of a molecule of human odor wafting downwind. Their clothing is well made and I really enjoy shooting downwind deer.
