What is the best scent to use? I have just started bowhunting this year and I have no clue about scent.
IMO the best scent is no scent. I try to be as scent free as possible from my body to my clothes to my pack, bow, etc. I personally use Dead Down Wind products in the shower, unscented deodorant, dead down wind and Scent Shield laundry detergent, store my clothes in a ScenTote bag, and store my gear in tupperware containers. I guess I do use some scent - I put HS Fresh Earth wafers in with my gear and my boots. I also spray down with DDW products before going into the field, and use DDW field wipes before my mid-day hunts. Staying scent free, playing the wind, and setting up near travel routes is your best bet IMO at getting a shot at a deer. When I was younger I used scents a lot, and granted I had no idea what I was doing, I had no luck with them. You're better off honing your bowhunting abilities without the use of lures and learning as you go. Good luck!
I just started too, it sounds like he uses a lot, but taking those extra steps pay off in the end. I've been using sprays, wafers and dryer sheets that have Earth Scent, scent free body/hair wash and clothing wash. I use a bottle of earth scent clothes and gear spray each trip, it all pays off I have all kinds of animals coming inches from me and they have no idea im there its great, deer pay no attention to me. I also hang those wafers near and above me. Tinks 69 scent works well during the rut, but everything has to be in your favor and if the deer aren't around that day then you won't see anything no matter how prepared you are lol good luck! Ten4. I use all the scent free stuff too. I wash my body in it and my clothes and i spray my clothes with scent killer and hang them outside the night before. I have killed two deer so far with just using scent killers but according to versuscountry.com eastern NC is in full rut so i was going to try to use some scent to attract some deer. i ended up buying tinks 69 and tried it this morning but no luck. maybe next time.
We use Tinks 69 during the rut, and to eleminate odor we use www.bioextreme.net it works better than anything else we have used and it is an all in one, use it from the washer to the field all from the same bottle. :D
