I am just wondering if scent lok or another brand is needed. Obviously anything c an help but wouldn't some cheap old camo and a scent spray work the same. I am in the market for some camo but wow is that stuff expensive. I happen to a little on the cheap side and am trying to get out of paying $140+ for a pair of pants. Not counting I live and hunt in Ohio and will need a jacket also. If it truly helpful then does anyone know where I can get any great deals.

No, it is not needed. As a matter of fact, it is very debatable as to how well the stuff actually works. People have been killing deer for centuries before camo was invented. Playing the wind is the key no matter what you are wearing.

I don't believe in scent lok really. Just wash your clothing consistently and get scent away spray. There are also some neat tricks to help depending what type of property you hunt.

Save your money. Scent Lok is not necessary at all.

I wore scent-lok and scent blocker for several years. Last year I decided to see what going without it would do. I killed 2 P&Y bucks and 7 does. Don't guess I will ever buy anymore carbon. Something I really do believe in, though is Chlorophyll. I started 2 weeks before season taking 2 capsules a day and rinse my mouth with a mixture or 1 part chlorophyl and 2 parts water before every hunt. I got away with murder! 9 times!

Needed, NO. But I'll admit, I like the clothing, they do make quality stuff.

I have it and like using it. I would say you could buy any camo and wash in the detergent or other things and be fine. I do believe showering and washing clothes helps. I probably get into it too much, but I believe every bit helps. I've been out without doing anything and sat in stands and I've noticed a difference in does smelling me. Wind not being a different factor either time.

As all my other brothers are saying save your money!! I fell into the hype and bought all of the top of the line scent free camo gear, from hats, boots, clothing, underwear...you name it and have still been sniffed out. We cannot even begin to understand deer's sense of smell, all we can do is try the best we can and play the wind.

I picked up a pair of ripstop red haed bdus at bass pro this week for $30 for both of them. they will be good until late ocotber or nov when it really starts to cool off. Im going to be wearing a leafy suit so tech i could wear anything underneath, even hot pink and it wont be seen. as far as the scent stuff goes, we wash and spray all of our stuff in scent eliminator and permethrin (for ticks). if money is an issue, for most ppl it is, try the bdus n spray down. id also compare the cost of soaking n spraying clothes over an over depending on how much you hunt vs something that is carbon activated etc

I vote for washing clothes in scent killer, a shower, and spray down with some type of scent killer -vs- scent-loc clothing.. You can buy a whole lot more soap and spray for what they want for scent-loc clothing.. Have a friend who goes to the extreme... carries clothing in a scent-loc bag, changes into them just before entering the woods, takes them off and right back into the bag when he exits the woods.... We hunt same property, same time, same deer... He gets blown and shoots the same caliber deer I do.....

    Just my opinion..

Smelliest parts of people are breath, sweaty hair, feet with open top rubber boots. I don't know whether scent loc works or not but if it doesn't cover what smells, it isn't helping much.

I use scent blocker, and also spray down, shower, wash etc. More the better IMO.

End of the day, wind is the factor.

I use some of the different scent lok gear but the main reason I use it is not because its carbon. It is quiet (but so is a lot of other camo) and to me it is very comfortable. It fits me well, a lot of shoulder room which I can never find in any other clothing including my personal non hunting clothing. I have really wide high square shoulders and its always a pain in the rear to find something that fits well.. I also like the open vertigo camo.. The fact that it is carbon and may reduce my scent is just a bonus...

Like everyone else is saying use scent free in the wash, shower and sprays for in the field and hunt the wind. The deers nose will always win.
